Would any of you know, if the left ventricle was moderately hypertrophied, does this eventually revert to being normal? I notice in my operation notes that mine was moderately hypertrophied and my left atrium was mildly enlarged.

My last echo showed aortic pressure drop of 36mmhg with no significant reflux, my mitral valve has mild regurgitation. Then there is the comment ' mobile' whatever that means.

Anyone care to translate any of that for me?

From my experience, no. It's damaged and will stay that way. :( Mine too!

Not sure what they are trying to say in the report.

It may return to normal

It may return to normal

My LV wasn't expected to but it did. I was in Left and Right side heart failure before surgery. The Left side performance was so bad things were banking up through the lungs to the Right side of the heart causing that to fail. I was a mess; I couldn't have the Ross procedure that had been planned for because my heart function was so bad and the operation had to be delayed a week while the CHF was treated. After treatment for the CHF started and the AVR was done my Right side heart function had returned to normal 6 weeks post AVR. It took a further 12 months for the Left side to return to normal. On admittance to hospital the LV was 80mm, three days post operation it was 75mm, 6weeks post op it was 65mm and at 14 months it was 46mm. The upper limit of normal is 58mm. The cardio and surgeon were amazed that it returned to normal. You should see the greatest improvement in heart function and remodelling in the first 12 months, it can continue to go on after this. :)

Prior to my surgery I was admitted to a hospital so they could try to get the fluid out of my lungs in order for me to have my angiogram. No one has mentioned CHF but I assume there was/is a degree.

Hi Sue,
Chloe had the hypertrophy and left ventricle enlargement too after her really REALLY bad chf episode and it took 2 years to go back to normal after her VR but its fine now.

Hey Sue,
I was rereading my surgeon's pre and post-op notes recently and I also had the same issues with my left ventricle/atrium. I am coming up on 5 months post-op and had a Muga Scan on the left ventricle last week to prepare for chemo and I am happy to report that the scan came back showing amazing results. Close to perfect results actually which had my onco practically jumping up and down with delight. He was a bit worried about my heart, but I knew all along that I would have good news for him. :D I feel absolutely wonderful and very blessed for such good results. I wish the same for you.
