My husband had an echo 9/19, based on a murmur our PCP detected during his annual physical 9/15.
Our PCP's RN has set up a CT scan for John on 9/28. We don't have written results of the echo yet, only the PCP & cardiologist. (I asked John to get results ASAP.)
I've listened to John's heart -- heard a woosh. My uneducated guess is it's the aortic, perhaps coupled with an aneurysm.
Have tried to read up on use of CT scan as diagnostic tool with heart valve problems. (I didn't have a CT scan before my MVR, only echo & heart cath.)
John is 60, relatively good health, excellent cholesterol levels (just got results of blood work done 9/15), excellent BP, takes no meds other than something for prostate, walks 1-2 miles daily during breaks at work. Has sleep apnea. Is more tired during the week -- only gets 6 hours' sleep during the week because he insists on getting up @ 4:30 to watch the news, feed & water cats before leaving the house @ 5:35 to eat breakfast on the way to work. Workday starts @ 7:30 a.m.
He says he's had no palpitations, no chest pains, no SOB.
He was hit head-on Dec. 6, 2005, resulting in airbag fracturing his sternum. Our PCP suspects he could have injured the heart then, although nothing showed up. I don't think they did an echo then. (In retrospect, seems they should with an airbag injury to the chest.)
I've told him that I **will** accompany him when/if he gets an appt with the cardiologist.
My guess is the CT scan will allow a look inside the valves & aorta???
Feedback welcome.
