I applied to QAS on 1/20/09 for a home INR moniter and just heard yesterday, 1/29/09, that I was approved by my insurance company, Tufts Health Plan, with no out of pocket expense for me! I was absolutely thrilled because I thought I would have to go to battle with Tufts to get approval (also with the fact that it only took 7 business days to get approval when I had heard that it could take 6-8 weeks). Tufts will cover the full cost of the machine and the cost of testing once a week. They will be sending a nurse out to my house within the next two weeks to train me on the machine. Happy Days! I'm am so excited!

This is cause for the Dance of Joy! You're going to love the freedom of home testing, and more importantly, the safety it offers.

Good for you! I am completely jealous, though; I got approved, too, but my OOP was so high. Enjoy home testing! Hope to be able to join in one of these days!

Robin:

That's great news -- and very quick news, too!!

I got my INRatio from QAS.

I had a doctor's appointment today and he ordered a variety of lab tests. When I went into the lab at his practice, I noticed a QAS booklet leaning against a wall on a counter. I quizzed the lab tech drawing the blood about their connection with QAS, and he said they refer some warfarin patients to QAS for at-home testing. I told him I had purchased 2 INR machines from QAS and had been home testing for 5+ years.
He said that not everyone is a good candidate for home-testing, but that many are and that it is "the wave of the future."
