I've heard the phrase "hunkerin' down" so many times over the last few days, it's about to drive me crazy. However, I've attached a picture of a bird "hunkerin' down". I was looking out the window from the midpoint on my stairs and noticed this bird in our oak tree. It's not real clear, as the wind was probably still blowing 60 mph and the limbs were whipping around. He was all puffed up, wet, and hanging on. A few hours later the wind had slowed down, I noticed lots of birds in my backyard, went to check, and he was gone.

We're now under a flood watch from a "cold front" moving into the area from the north. Some parts of Houston got 9 inches of rain last night. We have standing water in our yard. I'm beginning to think that God is upset with me!

While where you are doesn't experience that many hurricaines, I still don't know how any of you put up with living in that type of condition. I suppose simply love of area is enough, but man, the price you pay......

Well, Ross, I'll be thinking the same thing about you in December, January, and February when you are belly deep and shoveling snow! I guess it's what you're used to. This is the first major hurricane in this area in my adult life (I was 21 during Alicia, but still in college, so certainly no adult), but it snows every year in Ohio! Every place in the U.S. has something to deal with - hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, blizzards, mudslides, torrential rain, extreme heat, ice storms, etc. We all have to pick our poison. There are definitely days when I wonder why I live here, but it's not because of the weather. It's the traffic! Right now it is sunny, breezy, low humidity, and 79 degrees. Absolutely God's country. Yesterday was a different story!

Yeah I know, but don't associate me with liking snow any! I hate it. It was fine when I was little, but it sucks now that I'm an adult.

Old Ike is passing Northwest of me now and were getting 40 mph winds here.
