My doctor gave me her blessing today to continue on meds I am on and just to keep her up to date on how it's going and if I have any recurrence of symptoms or other problems.

Am on Toprol 25mgs Digoxin .25mgs Cardizem CD 180mgs all 1x a day. And feeling pretty better with the tachycardia, and valve problems. Just don't know the best way to get off of effexor..

Joe was on Effexor for a short while. It was a terrible drug for him. His bloodpressure soared to 200 over something. Very dangerous for him anyway. He got a complete schedule to get off it from his doctor, very slowly. It has major side-effects when you start to discontinue, and is dangerous to just stop fast. Many people have a hard time getting off it, emotionally and physically, and so did Joe. I think it took several weeks to taper off, and a couple of months for the side effects to go away.

I did a search on stopping it on Google and came up with quite a bit of information, some of it alarming.

Please speak with your doctor about a taper off schedule. This is one medication that you should not just stop cold.

My daughter was on Effexor and had a terrible time getting off of them. She had headaches and flulike symptoms. My husband is on Effexor for depression and neropothy from diabetes and he does well on them. At the beginning of last year, he kept decreasing his doseage and then went off completely. Had to go back on when everything started repeating itself. I am on Zoloft since a few months after the surgery last year. Still on 50mg. I was on this before and decreased mine until I was off. It helps tremendously with the quitting smoking and having the surgery itself. I am on digoxin 25mg, cardizem 180, lasix 40mg. daily, baby aspirin, coumadin and Zoloft. I have been taking Vioxx and it hasn't seemed to help my hand much. I would decrease slowly and go from there.
