Hard as it might be to believe today, Philadelphians were once quite slim. This was because we had nothing to eat at lunch time. This all changed when early in the last century when Louie over on 16th asked his wife Marie what he should serve at his new lunch counter. "Let them eat cheesesteaks" she said.
The rest is history.

I like historical stories with a twist ! When Lord Chichester planned to raise taxes, his wife (who we know as Lady Godiva) threated to ride thru the streets in the nude. The Lord ignored her threats and raised the taxes. A little known fact is that Lady Godiva rode sidesaddle. This was the origin of the phrase "Hurray for our side!".
