I am so lucky to have only this to complain about....so I even feel I have no right. With that being said how long does this very odd sensation in the incision last? It feels, so strange, numb, tingling, kind of burning, itchy and any other word I can find. No pain, just driving me nuts. I have it in the morning when I first get up and then late afternoon when I am getting tired again.

Thanks guys.

I cant remember how far out of surgery you are...but I seem to recall my tingly-numb chest lasted about 3 weeks or so. 2 years on and there is still a small area or two that feels kinda funny/different when you touch it.

Two years later I still have the same feelings. I have tried to get used to the feeling of itching, tingling, etc. but it is still there. I find myself rubbing it because it itches and then I realize I am in the public eye. Embarrassing, oh well when you become a senior I have heard you can get by with almost anything.

Gee, its been just over a year for me..........you mean to say I'm gonna itch for the next year or more????? Oh well, I only notice it more when I'm tried.

Oh lord, that long....oy. There are times it really drives me nuts and I feel like it hurts but it really doesn't. I guess you get used to it. As I said I am lucky if this is my only complaint

Thanks guys

My incision never itched but I was numb just above the right nipple for a good while....I can't really say how long...I just got use to it and one day noticed it was gone......the numbness, not the nipple:D :p

I'm over 2 year post-op and my incision still tingles and itches. It seems worse in the the morning and at night. Also if I'm hot. I think it's gotten as good as it's going to get as I haven't noticed any improvement for ages. It doesn't hurt, it's just irritating and inconvenient.

Oddly enough mine doesn't really burn, itch or tingle 4 weeks post-op. Just a little bit of pain, a little tightness and paradoxically, a lot of numbness and that's it...unless...something's touching it. If I wear a tapered shirt or an athletic fitting t-shirt, forget it. It feels like I'm wearing the roughest most scratchy wool known to man. I'm hoping this will go away in time. Fingers and toes crossed.

I never fiddle with mine because I don't want to irritate the wires or anything. I had read here where some members needed to have their wires removed and I decided that I just wanted to try to avoid that situation if I could. My scar itched for awhile--I don't recall how long, just a few or several months I think--but I also think that my not fiddling with it helped it not be so irritated. That said, my favorite cat, who weighs in at over 15 pounds, occasionally likes to hop up on the bed and do a little tap-dance on my chest to wake me and that can be, even now, an extremely uncomfortable situation  !

From my first heart surgery, which is through muscle and around my side and back, that scar still has icky numb and itchy sensations, here nearly 29 years ago!

Two OHS here and both incisions were superglued closed. Neither time did it itch but I certainly had pain and at times it felt/feels like little stings. I have some numbness on the left side of the incision.

My second OHS was four years after the first, and I still had pain from the first one that seemed to mostly be weather related. If we were getting/having rainy day, I was sore and didn't feel as well as a sunny, bright day. Same for snowy days.

I'm now 9 weeks out and am still weather sensitive. It's too early to know if it will last long term. My surgeon cleaned out all old wires etc and did all he could to rid me of whatever was causing me pain from the last time.

Fingers crossed some morning I will awake and discover I have no post surgical pain. What a gift that would be.

numbness might be around awhile. They cut through the nerves leaving numbness in spots. It won't bother you down the road, tho. I still have a numb spot from a long ago surgery.
