How is coumadin given? A friend had cardio version this weekend and is to get coumadin injections. Is all coumadin injected or is it normally given orally?
According to Bristol-Myers Squibb's leaflet in Coumadin samples --
"Coumadin for injection is supplied as a sterile, lyophilized powder, which, after reconsitution with 2.7 mL sterile water..."
contains 2 mg/mL warfarin sodium (and other things).
Coumadin injection seems to me more of a curiosity than an actual treatment. Why would you want to give along acting injection for something that could require rapid changes like warfarin? We ordered some once at my hospital but I think the doctor got talked out of using it before the patient actually got any.
If I was going to bet, I's bet the person got Lovenox and was told that it was "like" an injectable Coumadin.
