Hi all
I thought I should let you know that I was taken to hospital on tuesday afternoon after suffering chest pain that lasted for several minutes and spread into my neck and left arm.
I was just sitting at my work station minding my own business when all of a sudden it felt like something grabbing my heart and pulling it out my arm. I was taken to the emergency dept. and I had an ECG,blood tests and an x-ray. They all came back clear. I was kept in for 10 hours because they needed to retest my blood 8 hours after I was first addmitted. The Dr was unsure of what wxactly caused this. I did have a virus a few weeks ago and they think it may be related to that. I am due to visit my cardiologist next week for an echo and a check up so if he finds anything I will let you all know. Any way thanks for the support.
Amy

Good luck with the follow-up echo Amy. Hopefully they can give you the all-clear and maybe chalk it up to a muscle spasm or something (??). Let us know how you go.

Cheers
Anna : )

Amy not to scare you , but what you just described sounded very much like my dissection beginning. You be sure to get a copy of the Echo Report!!!! If they even so much as mention ballooning of the Aorta, demand a CATSCAN.

I'm trying to figure out how Kurli could have posted 8 days ago, and it seems we're now just seeing it.

If you start feeling even the teeniest bit funny - head back in again. Good luck on your visit and tests.

cardiologist report

Hi guys
I saw the cardiologist today. He wasn't to worried about the pain I had last week. He did an echo and said that because there wasn't any noticable damage to my heart that it was most likely scar tissue rubbing and causing a muscle spasm which was made worse by me freaking out and hyperventilating. He said that the measurements and pressure was the same as my last visit a year ago. So thats the good news. But he said that I now have Mitral Valve Regurgitation. I haven't had this before. The Dr said that it was only mild and that he wants to see me in 6 months to check up on me again. So for now I have been told to get my fittness levels up by walking everyday (which I know I should do but don't) and just keep an eye on any symptoms I notice. If anyone has had mitral valve regurgitation and would like to shed a bit of light on it for me that would be great. I'm sure its not alot different from the pulmonary regurgitation I had for 18 years but all the same its a new condition for me.
Thanks for listening
Amy :)

If you have another bout of pain like that, make them do a Catscan. Echo's can miss this if it's a dissection beginning.

A year and a half ago my echo showed a mild aortic regurg. I was not a happy camper. I started exercising regularly (at Curves) and a year later my echo showed the regurg to be at the trace level. My card said it was because of the exercise.

Hi Amy, I'm glad the echo came back OK, but I'll back Ross up here with getting further tests if you have this pain again (..and here's hoping you don't!..).

As far as the mitral regurg I guess it's something they'll just need to keep an eye on to ensure it doesn't get worse. In the last 3 years I've developed mild regurg in the mitral, aortic and tricuspid valves (in addition to the severe PV regurg), but they keep assuring me that while it is mild, there's nothing to be concerned about. I'm a bit skeptical about this myself, but as long as it's being regularly checked, then I guess it's something we have to accept.

Do try to keep up some sort of exercise - even if it's only a short walk each day. If you've got a partner or friend to do this with you, it will help with your motivation (..my partner is always dragging me out (..literally, some days! :D ..)..) and the healthier you are the better. You might even want to look into some other forms of exercise such as water aerobics, dance, yoga, etc.... I'm sure you could find a friend to drag along with you... :D

Best wishes,
Anna : )
