well I am currently hooked up to the heart monitor, I will be this way for less than 24, is there anything about the results of the test or wearing it I should know? How about taking blood pressure while wearing, any problem?

The important thing is to just do things as you do normally. If you rest when you usually don't or avoid regular activities, the test will not give an accurate accounting of your problems.
I am not sure if taking your blood pressure would affect the monitor but hospitals take BP while people are on monitors so, if you feel you need to know your BP, I would say go ahead and take it. Just make a note that you did so any questions that might come up about the results at that moment can be addressed.
Good luck.

BW,

Gina said just about everything there is to say.

Fun little companion, isn't it? Wait'll you try to sleep with it...

Oh, well. At least it's just one day.

Best wishes,

I've always wondered...

I've always wondered...

Hi all, I had to use the heart monitor back in the 80's when I lived in Scotland because I kept having palpitations all the time. It turned out to be nothing but emotional stress due to being depressed at the time. I know that it's supposed to register all your heart beats and all that in order to evaluate your general situation, but my question to you is: can being aware of it and paying attention to everything that goes on during that time affect the accuracy of the reading? I mean, when I know for instance, that I'm getting an EKG done, I just can't relax and breathe naturally. What I'm trying to say is that even though the person is having a normal day, he knows he's getting tested which may change his emotions, you know, something like being on TV I suppose. You just can't be yourself!

You must have read my mind or my impatience, I think I have to work on that. You'd think after raising kids a little heart monitor would be nothing, but alas it was difficult to sleep with. I kept thinking oh my gosh and I plan to have my chest cut open, I am really going to have to pray for patience!

I know what you mean, but I did think that the 24 hour thing would probably catch a good bit of regular time, being that my schedule which is usually pretty busy didn't change too much, so there was lots of time to forget about it!

I was pretty much able to ignore the thing most of the time I wore it this past summer, again, a 24 hour stint.

Sleeping with it took a little getting used to, but it wasn't too bad. I did notice that the irregular beats we were looking to record were happening within a few minutes of laying down so I was pressing the little event button on the monitor a few times.

I guess I've gotten pretty used to the things given my 2+ months in the hospital on a monitor and then having one every time I went to cardiac rehab for the summer after my surgery.

I've had a lot worse I guess. it's a REAL pain in the a$$ trying to sleep with two IV's in one arm and another IV in the other and a feeding tube up yer nose.

Nevermind all the bells and whistles on the monitors all around your bed and the babies across the unit screaming their heads off and the constant visitation from nurses and technicians and vampires and whatnot....

Rest? in a HOSPITAL????

Ha, ha, that's funny.
