I am debating if I should take my coumadin home tester with me on vacation. I am stable right now but up in the higher end like 3.1 and 3.2, I usually go up and down if I eat differently. I am going somewhere where I know I will be tempted more than once to eat differently, many great buffets around. Would you take yours on a 3 day vacation? I think I can make it, but keep going back and forth on if I should or not.

For a three day vacation, I don't think most people would take their tester.

For three weeks, yes.

If I were going to be gone a week or more I would definitely take my machine with me but for such a short time, don't bother.

I took my machine with us when we went on an Alaskan cruise a couple years ago ---- we were gone 13 days. I took it in my carry on bag as I didn't trust packing it in my check in baggage.

You'll be fine! Have a safe trip! :)

It's going to take that three days for anything you've done to register as a change anyhow.

Vacation

My routine is to test once a week, usually on Thursday's. If I'm traveling and I'm out on a Thursday, my monitor goes with me. For me, it's about making sure I'm following my routine. The monitor is compact space in my suitcase isn't an issue.

Where can I get a home INR tester, or whatever it's called? LOL, do I ask my doctor for it for insurance purposes or what? I have no clue where to start. :p

Btw, have a great time on your trip blake! Enjoy!

Monitor

Hi Karen,

If you're interested in home INR testing, you need to visit with your doctor. Monitors and testing supplies must be prescribed. Often your doctor's staff will take care of getting the appropriate paperwork sent to the insurance company and the medical supply vendor.

Hopefully, you won't encounter problems with your insurance company. Mine refused to pay for my monitor and I had to purchase it myself and then fight the insurance folks to get reimbursed.

Once you get the groundwork done with your doctor, there are a number of medical supply vendors the monitor can be purchased from.
