Hi,
My name is Steve, I'm about 2 weeks post surgery and recovering well. I'm new to coumadin and INR levels. I see the advantages of home INR testing and am checking with my insurance to see if it is covered. To those of you that do home testing were you able to get coverage for your home testing?

Thanks to all for your help and support,
Steve

My insurance paid 100% of my machine 4 years ago. My insurance now, Empire BC/BS will pay 90% for my new machine. It does vary greatly with each insurance company, but more and more do seem to be covering at least some of the cost. QAS, a sponsor of this site, is a great place to go first. They will do all the leg-work with your insurance company. Just click on their banner at the top of a page and you'll find their information.

My insurance paid 80% of the amount they allowed for my INRatio. I was getting test strips for a 20% copay but now they fall under my new deductible so I am paying out of pocket for those.
Every company is different but sometimes working with the supplier will get you a better answer than if you call because the suppliers know the right things to say.
