After going through a couple of surgeries over the lst 9 months. I thought it would be nice to share what I found to be the most difficult part and what I did to reduce the pain. I think we might each have different areas of discomfort and maybe by sharing it will help those who are about to go through their surgery.
My biggest area of discomfort both times has been my back from about the middle to my neck. This normally occurs late day and into the evening. Here is what I do to relieve:
1. massages- family support here is great. This time around I have actually had a professional mass. twice a week.
2. Pain-meds- I will usually take 1-ty/codine at night to help sleep, but I don't like the feeling they give me, so I try to avoid.
3. Nice bath with a nice muscle relax. in the water.-Remember they say no baths for awhile....I just fill the tub 1/2 way, so the water won't get on my incisions. What a great relief this is one for sore muscles. You will need help getting in and out of the tub, so don't be shy. For the part of the body not in the water use a nice warm towel to put over the rest of you.
4. I sit up has much as possible and do arm exercise to stretch the back.
Hope this helps and it would be interesting to hear what others do.
