Just wanted to let everybody know I made it home safe and sound Monday afternoon. Everything has gone better than I expected and now I just eat, walk and sleep. Sleeping has been a bit of a problem, with 2 hours being the max right now. Walking has not been a problem. My wife has limited me to 3/4 mile walks, which is probably wise this early in the program. I was only in the hospital 4 days but did have a setback when the racing heart thing happened Sat. afternoon. It lasted about 7 hours, but all has gone well since.
The surgeon actually put the vavle in twice. After he installed the first one, he was not happy with the way it looked. He extracted it and put in a second one. He told my family it didn't leak or anything but he just wasn't happy with it. Thank God he wasn't someone who settles for good enough. The only problem it caused was a longer operation which means more anestetic which meant longer on the ventilator because I couldn't stay awake long enough to show I could breath on my own. It was 11 PM before I finally got off that damn ventlator.
I'm looking forward to this down time away from work and just worrying about getting healthy and back into an exercise routine. Thanks to everybody who posts on VR.com, the information I got from this site was invaluable. Plus, it's kinda fun progressing through the forums.

I'm glad you are home Mark and doing so well. Heed your wife's advice and progress slowly, but surely . Sleep is elusive, but it will come in time.

Welcome home Mark and don't you worry about a thing. It will take time and everyone is different when it comes to recovery.
All you have to do is eat, rest, breath and walk. Everything else will fall into place.

Best wishes for a continue uneventful recovery.

Just wanted to say "welcome home Mark" & I hope you continue to do well in your recovery. Be kind to yourself & don't try to do too much too soon. There will be plenty of time & energy once you have recovered completely!

Take care & best wishes!:)

welcome home, sleep is elusive at first, it took me a few weeks to after I got home to be comfortable enough to sleep the night through, and I am a sleepaholic :D Take naps as often as you need to, you need lots of rest.

Welcome home. Your positive attitude really shows, good for you. Here's to a successful and boring recovery. Sleep when you feel like it, I remember getting up in the morning, having my coffee, taking a shower and back to bed for a couple more hours. Nothing like your own bed, or as in my case, your own recliner. :)

So good to hear how well you are doing.

Welcome home and take it slow. It's fantastic you are able to walk 3/4 mile already.
Hope you continue with a smooth, uneventful recovery.
