has arrived.

Twenty centimetres of snow arriving on strong easterly winds across open fields. The first obstruction is a cedar rail fence, the house and the barn. We'll be buried. Thankfully we shopped yesterday, and can stay home. All schools closed in our county and the surrounding ones. Thank you Gulf of Mexico and western Canada.:p How can you be so generous especially with something we don't need any more of? We're lucky though, so far the snow is fluffy not moisture laden packing snow. Horses in the barn registering their disapproval.;) Their hay would be in Manitoba if we fed them outside.

How are you doing south of the border?:)

Speaking from Southern California, a storm blew through here on Wednesday with really strong wind. Left behind about 5 ft (I know nothing compared to you guys) of snow up in our moutains, but the unexpected part was that snow level dropped down to about 2000 foot level which closed about 4 major highways for about 24 hours. We aren't prepared for this kind of weather here. So I guess it's batten down the hatches.....:D

ah....poor you lance ;) we are now getting what Seattle had Wednesday night and will continue until Sunday.
Your Welcome :)
Those of you on the West coast, take it easy out there and stay safe.

I can't complain. We have about 5 inches of older snow left on the ground at this point and we may get a couple of inches later today. Of course on Sunday we will get a blasting.
My friend was living 2 hours north of Toronto and just last week she moved down to Mississauga, just west of Toronto, because she wanted to have a break from winter. Would it be too cruel for me to call her and laugh? :)

An update

An update

Snow is heavier and wetter. Can't see the barn--about 200 ft.

And the very latest ......................

there is another storm hitting Sat/Sun night to be followed by? you guessed it another storm on Tuesday night. We are surely blessed:eek: Why can't they just space themselves out--not every other day. It's discouraging--clean up from one and then there's another:p

Escargome: I heard they had snow in Las Vegas too.

Bina: It was just on the news this storm goes as far east as New Jersey. So maybe you'll have more than the old snow. Your friend in Mississauga isn't getting off much lighter. Mississauga is about an hour's drive from me south and east and the storm covers Lake Ontario to the American side. Strong east winds down Lake Ontario are driving snow into Hamilton and SW Ontario. Power lines are down in Essex County (Chatham area) so we are prepared for an outage too. Lots of candles, a couple of oil lamps and several flashlights. Horses have full buckets of water and they're still clamouring to get out. Hwy 400 closed due to a major accident and a multiple vehicle pile-up on the 401 just east of Toronto.

A darn good day to stay by the fire. Too bad I've eaten all the chocolates.;)

I'm just east of Toronto and I came home awhile ago from shopping and it's pretty horrible driving -- the wipers clog up easily and it's slippery. The worst though is watching out for the goofy oblivious drivers -- I used some swear words I had forgotten I knew!:p

The Ottawa area is getting one inch of snow today and maybe 2 inches tonight....Yahoo, I'm safe.
We've loaded up on supplies anyway, extra bottled water, etc.
Do people ever learn to stay off that 401 Highway when the conditions are bad?

Wet Coast Gone White

Wet Coast Gone White

Much to the delight of our eastern friends, I am sure:), west coast Lotus Land got a good dump of snow on Wednesday and we are forecast for another good dump on Sunday, then almost a full week of continuous flurries. Currenlty it is -11C:eek: and we have 6-8 inches of white stuff. All main roads are ploughed and clear but those in the back roads of Vancouver are having a slippy time. Up the valley they had blizzard conditions and lots of cars sliding off the Trans Canada, which was closed from Abbotsford to Chilliwack for a quite a while.
Lovely and sunny today with blue skies! Just the right kind of weather for the wife to get out and clear the driveway:D! I can just imagine all the nasty things my neighbours will be saying about me letting her do all the work:eek:!!

Cameron, where a bout's in Vancouver are you? You near Robinson Street or Barclay Street - in down town Vancouver?
8 inches of snow...WOW, traffic would be at a stand still.

Lots of show out there. Quite windy with lots of drifts. I keep shovelling but can't keep up. :( We're up on the escapment at the west end of Lake Ontario and always seems to get more than the surrounding area.

5.30 pm Friday

I'm down here in the Niagara region (usually known as the "banana belt") and my first two steps are covered in snow already (that must make it about 12 - 14 inches). Buses are running, but not to any schedule - you wander out to the stop (if you can find it) and if/when you see a bus, you jump up and down, waving your arms because not only are you covered in snow and look more like a snowman, but the wind is driving it all over the place and the driver can't see more than a bus-length in front of him . . .

More expected, this apparently is 2 out of 4 . . by the end of it, I will be lucky if my wee nose is still able to poke out the top of it all !

Well, don't get on a bus in Seattle!!

Check out these photos from a Portland news station. Apparently the passengers told the bus driver not to go down this hill, but down they went and then couldn't stop until they were dangling over Interstate 5 (which is our major highway from Canada to Mexico):eek:

Scroll down the page to see some great shots.

Stay safe everyone!
