Hi folks ...do any of you suffer with high blood pressure? ..if so how high is it and is this normal for us heart patients ? ..my Dr is concerned that mine (which has always been normal ) has gone suddenly high and remained high for the last month ..I've to go again to her tomorrow for another check and if it remains high she will get in touch with my Cardio ...just wondered
Thanks
Scottie

That it suddenly changed and stayed that way may be why it's concerning her. Is that just from one or two readings in her office, or from a home machine, too? How much of a change is it?

I would wonder about the cause for a sudden change. There are a number of things that can cause it.

Best wishes,

I had high BP, with numbers sometimes at 190/95 when it was discovered. It is now being treated and is down to 115/70 on a regular basis. A sudden increase as you describe is unusual, no wonder your doc is concerned. But there are many things that can increase your BP including lifestyle, alcohol use, some over the counter meds, etc.

Thanks Tobagotwo and Tom for your replies ...I rarely drink alcohol and am not taking any different Meds from my normal nor have I changed any habits or diet Tom ...had my bp checked again and it was 156/96 so I have an appointment to see my GP a week today ...
I just wondered if anyone had found similar ...my bp has always been normal until now
Thanks again

My BP did go up since the surgery, and I am at the "pre-hypertension" level now. Right after the surgery, it was wonderful, like a six-year-old's. Bummer. :(

I would consider trying to see if there's a cause before simply squashing it with a prescription. Eventually, you will want to treat it, though.

Best wishes,

Scottie,
All my adult life, my blood pressure was borderline-high. In the past, the docs didn't feel that 135/85 was bad enough to worry about, so they left it. About 2 years ago, when I changed cardio's, the new one observed the pressure and said "We've got to get that down." I have been taking Avalide since then, and for the most part my blood pressure has been around 117/75. On occasion, for several days at a time, my pressure will rise to the range of 130/80 or so for several days, then go back down. As long as it goes back down, I haven't worried. I attribute it to several variables such as recent high-sodium meal consumption, stress, other minor illnesses, etc. If it didn't go back down, I'd do what you are -- get to the doc for an evaluation.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.
