hi all!
i'm so sorry for not having been around at all... i've just been crazy busy...

first of all, thanks nancy for letting me know you are thinking of me.... i think of everyone here too, but can't seem to find the time to sit and stay on my computer for too long lately.

oldest daughter is studying abroad in seville, spain. she is staying with a family. the first family was awful and she has changed homes_ much better.

my dad is doing much better, started driving a few weeks ago, going into the office for an hour or so a few times a week. flew to florida yesterday where he is starting to swing a golf club little by little. only thing that hasn't ironed itself out is his bp_ still high. the cardio has changed his meds once again and has put him back on norvasc which worked, but his ankles swell up from it. also atenolol (50 mg, 100 was knocking him out), and diovan.
hopefully this will resolve this last thing and keep him totally stable.

youngest daughter got into washington u. in st. louis (early decision) and we are starting to prep for that.....also, lots and lots of dancing while still home... takes up so much time, but it's so wonderful (proud mom!)

joey is fine, just fighting a cold.....his parents are aging and since we live the closest to them, we wind up carrying a lot of the load. doctor's appts., etc. it's so difficult for joey to witness. seeing your parents go from being "young" vital, active folks to calling constantly for the same unimportant thing is really trying. also, his dad has a bit of dementia and his calcium levels are high (they have been for the last year)... that has been another project in itself...

also, i'm having so much dental (gum) work done... i just had gum surgery that was extremely successful. then i had my new dentist put caps on the teeth. he must have pushed them up too high into the gum because the gum is more inflamed that before the surgery and they are recommending i have the surgery again!!! ( and i'm a COWARD!!!!)..
so, i guess now i know why i've been busy..

but, all is fine and fixable. we are so fortunate.
i will come back, hopefully soon. but in the meantime i think of you all...
hope you are all well.
and, thank you nancy for the "heads up" ... i have missed you and hope you and joe are well.

all the best, sylvia

Hey Sylvia,
So good to hear from you. Sounds like everything is going good for you guys and very busy. I think we all have been very busy, it has been hard for me to keep up with all that goes on here anymore also. But try and check in when I can.
Again it is go to hear from you. Tell Joey hi.
Take Care

Sylvia? Do I know you? I think I remember someone by that name. Maybe it's from the archives? :D

Hi there Sylvia ... My husband and I are both Wash U. alums ... congrats on your daughter's acceptance. She will have a great time!

Hello, Sylvia, nice to see you posting again. Washington U. is such a phenomenal school. Congrats to her and to you proud parents. I have a junior-aged son, and we're getting ready to make our first college visit in a month. So much to do...

Sylvia? No Kidding?

Wow, great to hear from you again. We've missed you, for sure.

I know how difficult the combination of aging parents and your own children heading off to college can be -- we went through much of the same. Hang in there. As the "responsible" offspring, that is part of what we have promised our parents in return for all they have done for us. It is emotionally difficult, but I'm sure you and Joey would both feel much the worse if you weren't there to help.

I can't speak of Wash. U., but I can speak of St. Louis and environs -- Great Place! My only sister lives in an Illinois town about 15 miles east of St. Louis, and my daughter and I try to get down there to visit a couple of times a year. When in St. Louis, look for Fitz' -- it is near the U. Kind of a mini-brewery for Root Beer. Also a restaurant, of course, but kind of burgers, etc., for the college crowd. The root beer is worth the trip all by itself. Also, in warmer weather, head for Ted Drewes' Custard stand near downtown. Best frozen custard in the area.

Luck be with you! Stop in to visit when you can.

Hi Sylvia-

I'm so glad to see your post, and to know that life is going along normally, a few little glitches and mostly good news.

So happy to hear that your dad is doing so much better. :)

Don't forget to take care of Sylvia!

Don't forget to take care of Sylvia!

Sylvia,

So happy to hear from you!! But so sorry you're going through all this. No wonder you haven't had time to post! I?m sending you lots of positive vibes.

It?s hard to deal with our aging parents in the best of circumstances... but when you add in all the other stress that can happen in our lives about that time.... boy you find strength you didn?t know you had. (I did anyway) My Mom died when my oldest son was a college sophomore and Ry was just going in as a freshman. Not to mention the oldest one decided to get marred that year, I was only a year out of heart surgery. During those times you can forget all about taking care of yourself. Please remember to take care of yourself too, Sylvia. Know we?re all here thinking of you and we love you. You need support to, girlfriend!!

Sylvia:

Good to hear from you.

My nephew-in-law is working on an MBA @ Washington U. I've always enjoyed visiting St. Louis -- lots of cultural events, sports, shopping, restaurants. Great place to visit -- or live.

Hi Sylvia,

Glad to hear all is well. I am a fellow Wash U alum as well - go Bears! :D Great (but really hard!) school. Feel free to drop me a PM if you (or your daughter) have questions.

Take care,
Melissa

Sylvia - Good to hear from you. It sounds like normal life is all around you. Please say hello to Joey. Good luck with the dentist.
Bill

Sylvia,
St. Louis is practically my back yard! My nephew received his MBA from Wash U, and a pretty good percentage of students from Cape Girardeau are accepted either there or at SLU.
If you ever need anything while he's there, just holler, and I'll try my best to help out.
Mary

Hi Sylvia, so good to hear from you. My daughter is spending 8 weeks in France this summer to study. She will be staying with a family and just finished her questionaire that is used to match her up with a family. I am praying she gets a good one. I know people who's children have had great experiences and really unpleasant ones. I'm glad your daughter's arrangements were changed.
