Good news is, of course, I woke up! My surgery was last Wednesday the 4th. I know it sounds selfish, because all I wanted was to wake up, but now I am stuck here in the hospital for another 3-4 days just to get the INR levels right. Ug. Again though, the good news, of course, is that i am doing well and feeling pretty darn good considering all i have been though in the last 5 days.
Couple interesting things:
I find out first thing tomorrow whether or not I will be getting a permenant pacemaker. Wasnt really expecting that, but I guess it is small peanuts compared to what has already been done.
My Aorta was dialated all the way up to the arch, and I got most of it replaced afterall. They had to cool down the body to 20 degrees and all- crazy! All in all, my surgery was still only 6 hours, compared to 8 for my fist surgery 11 years ago when they initially tried to repair the valve and replaced it instead with the tissue valve.
The ticking is also crazy with a mechanical valve! Its a fun conversation piece for my visitors.
Thanks for all your support, and I will keep an update on the pacemaker as I learn more!

Congrats

Congrats

Congrats on your successful surgery. Of course, you woke up; we knew you would, Do a few laps around the ICU and get some rest while you're waiting for your INR to get within range. You'll be out in no time.

The ticking and clicking of your new valve will probably bug you for a while, but don't worry about it. Soon you'll be too busy with getting on with your life to notice it.

So glad to hear that you are doing well and hope the next post will be that you have been released and are headed home!

Congrats on making it to the other side. The worst is behind and everyday should get a little bit better.

One note - I'm pretty sure they cooled you down to 20C and not 20F. If they cooled you down to 20F the water in the cells all throughout your body would have frozen, thus causing those cells to explode...

Hi MNMOM...Well done on reaching the 'other side'. Wishing you a smooth and uneventful recovery. Keep us posted as to how your doing.

Just wondering about why you need a pacemaker ?

Best wishes.

Glad to read the good news. I wish you a smooth recovery!

Your ticking will quiet down quite a lot with time.

Glad you have recovered well enough to post and I hope they are able to turn you loose sooner than you expect. And it's a good thing, isn't it, that whatever sort of cardio-specialist you need is available at that faclity?

Regards,

Happy news. Annoyance is a good thing as you would not be annoyed at having to stay if you were not feeling better. Be patient and just try to think of it as an extended stay in a place that gives you breakfast in bed. Okay, okay, I know - breakfast in bed when the food is crummy is not all that great but at least you don't have to do the dishes.;):D:rolleyes:

You will get used to the ticking and it can be fun at times.

Wishing you all the best for a continued smooth ride and hope you can avoid the pacemaker.
