Prior to surgery did any of you experience discomfort (not bad pain) in the center of the chest (sternum area), left ribcage (lower like right under the last rib), and or under the left armpit? I know about the back and shouder pain associated with the ANEURYSM (and I just started to experience some mild discomfort yesterday). The pain in the pre-mentioned areas (when active) intensifies while walking or pulling (ie:straining). This is the same pain that caused me to get the CT SCAN and find the Aneurysm, just not sure it is related.

Hoping to find some of you with the same symtoms that were releived after surgery. My cardiologist said that now that we did the ANGIO (NO blockage) we should attribute it to the Aneurysm and hope it goes away after the surgery. It has been on and off for the last few weeks (meaning I have not had the discomfort for the last few days and then today while walking to the hospital for pre-op it started and has stayed with me most of the day< of course not constant but on and off)

Cory I would sure think so. Mine pretty much was all over the chest area and not until it ruptured did I get pain in my arm and neck.

Corby,
I have a BAV and a small (3.9-4.0) aneurysm.
I often have pain in the center of my chest, sternum area. I have had pain under my left armpit also. I sometimes get pain in my heart. Like, with each beat it almost aches.. Its all very tolerable pain. Nothing severe, just irritating, and a little scary.

What did your Doctors saY?

Yes, I did have pain that I can only attribute to the aneurysm, as I did not have coronary artery disease (therefore I presume no angina) and the pain was gone when I woke up from surgery. The doctor hemmed and hawed about whether it was due to the aneurysm; this is my conclusion.

Rachel,

I notice in your profile that you had a Porcein valve and then a year later replaced again with a mechanical? What happened?

The first time I told my cardio about it he did an echo and saw that my heart(maybe just the LV) had dialated from 48mm to 52mm in one week. I dont have a copy of my records yet, I am pretty sure he was talking about the LV. He thought that what I was describing to him was just that my heart was compensating for the extra volume. The aneursym hasnt changed. At least not yet.

The porcine valve came unsewn 2/3 of the way around and I developed another root/ascending aneurysm in the area of dehiscence.

Sorry to hear it, was it a surgical error?
