I'm pleased to report that recovery from the hernia surgery (Sep 23rd) is virtually complete. The recovery was slowed by the Lovenox/Coumadin anti-coagulants. I had a fair amount of internal bleeding and "collateral discomfort" in the groin area. Any guy wanting to know what "collateral discomfort" means - details only in PM's - ha!
My GP said that recovery would be about one month. Two weeks after surgery, the surgeon said recovery was still about a month away. I started light walking three weeks after surgery and slowly added time and distance without pushing the speed.
At 4 weeks I got a really bad cold. The cold is almost gone. I continued to walk throught the cold bug (warm weather here in Texas). I actually found the increased breathing improved my sinus symptoms (while I was walking). Heart rate was elevated a bit from the combination of virus and exercise, but not in any danger zone. I took it easy, but kept moving. Only minor stiffness.
At almost 6 weeks, I'm ready to exercise with more vigor. Hope to run a 5k in December. I was up to that level before the hernia surgery. Weight is down to 210 Lbs (from 244)!
I thank God very day for new life. I get a bit weepy thinking of how fortunate I really am.
