Here's what happened while escaping Ivan the horrible

Kathy and I decided on Shreveport La, to be our destination... of course neither one of us even SAW Shreveport... , I lost communication via cell phone with her about 3pm Tue.. (due to my ignorance with them, and Spaz had a BIG problem)It was 10mph for about 4 hrs..so we got off main interstates and took minor highways..no maps , just going north..lol..an adventure..no ac in my truck..we lost all communication with Kathy,Robbie &kids..scared if they were ok or not.. soon Spaz was hacking.. lying on floorboard of truck, we fanned her and gave water..well she had an accident...all over my shoe and foot and purse and med bag..phewwwwww wwwweee, yea that kind of ACCIDENT..lol... we had to stop and clean up.. back on road..everytime Kathy would call.. the D-m_ phone would say Missed CALL!!!, grr I was mad..then Solomon started hacking.. he drank water and John's tea.. he still wasnt improving.. by now we are on 55 north in La, then 55 north in Missippi?
We go through Hammond , and continue..
About 6pm, Solomon looks at me and drops his head on my shoulder , his fir is hot ..his nose is hot and dry..Spaz is prone on floorboard..I told John WE MUST FIND A ROOM.
The first 2 had signs NO DOGS.. yet I see ppl taking Poodles and Pomerians in rooms..grr. Im getting worried..may not find a room.. my babies will die in this heat, when we find Brookhaven , Miss.. first one a Days Inn wouldnt even talk to us.. but I saw a sign for the MEXICAN INN, it also had a sign no dogs...but the owner saw John ( I couldnt get out of truck, covered in fir and looked quite wolfish )and owner asked John if we needed a room which John said YES!! But we have 2 dogs... owner said he would rent a room, 65.00 a day ..which I thought was great!!
It was managed by Indian nationalist's and they treated us very well, and I wanted to let everyone know.. the Mexican Inn in Brookhaven Missippii, they have a big heart..our last day there they didnt even charge full amount.
Anyway that is my story..woof... and tails are wagging..love Yaps

I know the feeling of having dogs without a/c.. Years ago, we borrowed our son's truck to go to our Condo in N.C. On the way home, my litle Shitzu was panting so hard. We had to stop and I ran him down a hill to a creek to cool him off. Even with my dog, Kallie, a Papillon. He still gets hot..Sits in my lap with face in a/c.. ...How is your home? I saw the newsreels. It looked awful in Gulf Shores . That street that was under water for 6-8 blocks..and the zoo alligators loose. did they ever find them? Let us know how your home fared? my home came through without any damage, Im on a hill and Ive never been flooded, wind got a tall pine that I planted over twenty years ago, took about 1/2 of her , covered my driveway..but freinds and neighbors come together in times like this and it was quickly cleared,one of my sisters has a torn roof, the other is fine.
It is awful at gulf shores, restuarants full of mud, and from 182 down 59 no one but state officials and Presidents ,lol, can go through, (Bush did a tour),millions of $'s gone.One condo I heard lost an entire floor, and I -10 is shot from P'cola on down, scar.The gators have NOT been found,and Ive met Chuckie..he's abig boy, some deer are still loose as well, thankfully they moved the wolves.
Foley is finally up and trying , but still have a 6-6 curfew.
My daughter was finally able to go to work today, and I hope she remembers to take county rds home..they are arresting any out past curfew.
I am proud to say Ive not seen any price gouging, and all are helping all, it opens your eyes and your heart when this happens.

I am so glad that you guys came through virtually unscathed. This was very welcome news as we were all worried about you and yours. And while it is highly unlikely that we will ever find ourselves in Brookhaven, Miss., should happenstance take us there, we will certainly frequent the Mexican Inn. It is good to know that there are some good, kind folks still out there (that aren't members of this board! )

Glad you were able to get a room. I know what it's like traveling with animals. Luckily, cat clubs contract for rooms at a reduced rate at motels/hotels that will take pets. If I don't stay at the show hotel, I look for a Motel 6 or La Quinta, which are nearly always pet-friendly.

Have you heard any news about Pensacola? I have friends down there, she owns a vet clinic. Saw her & her husband 2 weeks ago (9/11) in Houston TX area at a cat show. Another friend is building a home in Pensacola. Will move there from Austin TX with her husband upon completion. His family owns a marina & restaurant in Pensacola. Heard yesterday that the marina & restaurant are "probably" gone, the home (only framing done so far) too.

is in rough shape ..they had the eastern hit from Ivan, which is always bad,Ive posted some pics in a new thread... Have you been in contact with your friend? Im so sorry ..Fla has had such a bad year ..its that both ppl and funding are exhausted. Wishing the best for them..love Yaps

Lived at Gulf Breeze..Across the bridge from Pensacola.. Bill came on VR a few days before the storm saying they were leaving. Have not heard back from him..Maybe Yaps can give us news of what she knows about Gulf Breeze. I would e-mail him..but feel like that power is still out Bonnie

I'm trying to remember Bill's PM's to me last year. I know his son had twins about a year ago..and seems like they lived down in S.W. Fla. Maybe they went there.Also, I remember his wife and Ann's daughter had the same type job in Fla.Social workers with children...I will scan Bill's post and see if he ever mentioned where he lived in Gulf Breeze. I think he posted pictures on V.R. Not sure. Bonnie
