Hey everyone-

well I'm less than 24 hours away from the big surgery... I just want to say a BIG 'thank you' to everyone here and to VR.com for being here - this site has provided me a tremendous amount of knowledge about VR, and helped me to come to a decision. Unless I change my mind again (Doc said as long as I 'let him know before I go to sleep' which valve I want, all is good'), I will be going to Barnes-Jewish hospital in St. Louis, MO tomorrow morning (4/13) at 6 AM, surgery at 7:30 AM, getting a Carpentier-Edwards Bovine Valve put in by Dr. Marc Moon. Doc says the surgery will be about 3-4 hours, but I have pre-op this afternoon, so I will get many more questions answered then.

I will be sure to post later today after my pre-op appt. Just wanted to post now to say the countdown is ON!!!

thanks,
eddie

Eddie, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Be sure and have someone post for you so we will know how you are doing. Be brave and remember God's arms are around you.

Soon it will be but a memory. Your in the most difficult stage now, try to hang in there and know that we all go with you. Just the same, we'll all be waiting outside the OR when you come out. By all means, have someone post to let us know how your doing.

Good Journey

Eddie-

Wishing you all the best for your surgery tomorrow. It will be the birthday of your brand new shiny heart. You'll do just fine. I hope someone will let us know how things went. We'll be waiting to hear.

Take care and God Bless.

Eddie,

Good luck with your surgery. Tomorrow morning will be easier than you think. It was for me anyway...when I got there I just let go and let the pros do their job. Before you know it you'll be waking up and saying "is it over already?"

If someone can post for you please let us know how you're doing.

Eddie,
It'll all be over before you know it! We'll look forward to hearing from you as soon as you're able to post. Good luck!
Sue

Hey Thanks for the thoughts everyone...

well now it's just after midnight, and I have to be at the hospital at 6 AM!! so I just got done doing as much of the shave that I could (MAN that took FOREVER!!).. and now I'm paying a few bills online before I try to get a few hours of sleep in. Surgery scheduled at 7:30...

not much new to report after the pre-op today. did the EKG, chest x-ray, blood and urine test, talked with the anesthesioligist, the nurse practitioner, and some guy about testing my blood clotting time during the operation for use in a study! I did ask the nurse if they would be taping the surgery, and if so, if I could get a copy of it, because one of the forms I signed said it gave them the right to video it and use the video for teaching purposes. she said she didn't know if it would be taped, but to ask the dr. in the morning. And if they do tape it, that it shouldn't be a problem for me to get an 'edited' copy of it... so we'll see!

so yea, I still feel pretty good about this. no nervousness yet... hopefully that means I won't get nervous at all until they have the sleepy juice in me and at that point I won't care! :) Not sure if I can have someone post for me yet or not, it will depend on if I can get my wife to figure it out. we'll see... if not, I should be home saturday or sunday, and I will be sure to post right away then!

thanks again everyone... see you all on the flip side...
