Hi, welcome to VR. If you have read very much, you will already know that this is a topic of extensive discussion. It seems to me that there are so many variables that it is impossible to answer your question with a simple yes or no. Statistical studies only muddy the issue. Making things even less clear are the changes in the manufacture of valves; it may not be possible to make a good comparison of one of todays valves with the previous version. No one will know how this "new" generation of valves will perform for some years. There is just no way to compare point for point whether one valve is better for you as an individual. Your surgeon will take into consideration any number of factors based on his education and experience as well as your age, state of health and the damage to your heart when he recommends a valve or a selection of valves. Obviously, it would be good for you to become familiar with the different types so you can engage in that conversation as a knowledgable participant. I would suggest that you ask him directly why he makes particular recommendations as this may provide you with information about your own condition that you will not find in statistical studies. Remember, statistical studies apply well to populations but less well to individuals.
