There is an article in to-day's Toronto Star about contaminated heparin produced by B. Braun a multinational manufacturer.

"Health Canada said the products contained the contaminant over-sulphated condroitin sulphate but the agency said there have been no reports of adverse effects from the products."

There's probably not a way to report them. There are a number of sites available by Googling the name of the contaminant.

Anyway, I sent a communication to the Minister of Health, Mr. Tony Clement, appearing on the Health Canada website if anyone is interested in making their feelings known as well.

I just pray warfarin sodium isn't next on the list.

Hi Ross,

No I'm not sweating it. As far as I know I won't need Heparing anytime soon.

Further articles (GlobeandMail) in a Toronto paper went on to explain that the active ingredient in Heparin derived from pig intestines was compromised by "brokers". Whether by accident or design is not known. And yes, of course, it was "cheaper". Pet food was similarly "compromied" by a cheaper ingredient.

Warfarin hasn't been "compromised" so far.

Happy Easter!
