Help....I know this is crazy, but I cant remember if I took my warfarin yesterday evening. I take 5mg / 6mg on alternate days.

I feel a bit worried as my irregular hb's are pretty bad and Im pretty sure Im going in and out of a.fib.

What should I do ?????//

Jacqui,
I'm not on warfarin, so I am not sure, but I dont think missing a dose of warfarin would make your heart do the funk. I am not sure on the warfarin dosing, but I would get seen, at least call and talk to the on call doc, but if you think you are slipping in and out of a-fib I would go to the ER, they can deal with the A-Fib, and help clear up the warfarin dosing issue. A-Fib isnt something to mess with if you arent used to it.

hope this helps

Morgan

Thank you Morgan. My a.fib problem is ongoing, for at least the last 3 years....if only a trip to the ER would fix it (no such luck).

I have taken 1000mg of fish oil and will hope that this will do the trick until my warfarin dose is due tonight !!

Once again....THANKS.

My suggestion is to take HALF a dose.

An extra Half Dose won't cause problems and it will prevent your INR from CRASHING so radically.

THEN, go out and buy a 7 Day Pill Box so you will be able to check whether you took your pill or not :)

In addition to a 7 day pill box, I keep a chart for ALL of my medications, numbered 1 to 31 for each day of the week with a separate column for each medication. I write in the dose each time I take a pill. This chart is attached to a clipboard hanging on the wall above the kitchen sink.

Hi Jacqui:

I hate it when I can't remember if I've taken my meds. Someone who really knows something about ACT management will be along soon I hope. I would think it would be better to be a tiny bit on the high side than on the low side, especially if you're very symptomatic right now. Maybe take a half dose and see if someone who really knows something comes along and tells you to take more?

Jacqui:
I know how you feel. I recently had trouble remembering if I had taken my Coumadin. I did as was suggested and took a half dose. When I tested a week later, my INR was just slightly higher than it had been, but I was still in range.

I have a-fib too. I am told that the Coumadin (anticoagulant) does not have any effect on a-fib one way or the other. So, what ever symptoms you are experiencing are not from the anticoagulant. It was explained to me that folks with A-fib take anticiagulants to guard against clots, not rates or rythem of a-fib. In any event, I hope your a-fib problem subsides quickly.

Kind regards,
Blanche

Thank you *Al, *PJ and *Blanche.....I feel very ''stupid'' for forgetting, so I am going to take Al's advice and buy a 7 day pill box (it would surely be hard for me to mess that up).

Iv taken 2.5mg, and I am due for a blood test next Thursday, so all should be fine. Phew....panic over.

Thanks again ''everyone''.

The earlier suggestion to take half a dose is good advice. That dosage shouldn't make a lot of change in your INR one way or the other. The advice to buy a "seven day pill box" is very good advice. I used to have the problem of "did I or didn't I" often until I finally bought a dollar pill box. Haven't had to worror about this problem for years.

Yes, I'd take 1/2 a dose ---- and get a 7 day pill box. I use one.

Jacqui,

I too have had blood in my urine once or twice in my 30+ yrs. with coumadin & it was attributed to a high INR. I will reinterate what some of the other members of this forum have told you already --- get a pill box! I have a box for my morning regime of pills & then another one for my evening pills. I always take my coumadin in the evenings & try to take it at the same time every evening if possible. And too, see if you can get a home monitor. It would make a world of difference! :)

Take care & I hope you get back on track!

God Bless,
njean

Sorry Jacqui,

Part of this was written to you but it was actually in reply to "Heartfelt's" question. I hope that you got your issues worked out too!
