I came across a 2002 article from Mayo Clinic about the use of statins and aortic stenosis... it says that resarch indicated that "narrowing of the heart's 'exit valve' is less than half as likely to worsen in patinets taking statin drugs..."
Anybody aware of this?
The site is http://www.mayoclinic.org/news2002-rst/1535.html. It sounds interesting.
Bye now, Tucsonan

Tucsonan,

We had this discussion about statins a few months back. The opinion of most wasn't too favorable regarding usage of statins.

Interesting reports but most seems to doubt the veracity of the data.
Have you had AVR?

Thanks for your feedback on statins

Thanks for your feedback on statins

No,.... I haven't had AVR yet. Five years ago, when the leaky valves and aortic stenosis were diagnosed I was highly symptomatic, with 3+ insufficiecy. As I began treatment with hawthorn (a natural form of ACE inhibitor) and subsequently, by a traditional Chinese practitioner, I have been quite functional.
During last year I have done too much physical work and the 105 - 110+ degrees we've been having don't help.
The cardio. says to think surgery. Thanks to this site, my initial feeling of doom has lifted.
The site one of you recommended about statins was enlightening. Thanks, Inge (Tucsonan)
