HELP INR is 5.7

I tested with my InRatio yesterday, 4.8. Anticoagulation Clinic call and I went in for a vein draw todayl, 5.7. I was told to skip tonights dose which is 2.5mg and cut weekly dose by 2.5.

I take 2.5 on Monday and Thursday, and 5.0 the rest of week . Next week take 2.5 Monday, Wednesday & Friday,5.0 the rest of the week.Go for blood draw next Thursday.

My INR has been creeping upward for the last couple of weeks. 3.6 and 3.8 on the InRatio. Have not had a vein draw, other than today, since February 21, InRatio 2.7 Lab 2.9.

The only things that have changed are walking less and maybe drinking less water. My feet hurt so bad with Neuropathy and Plantar Facitis that I can only go for a short distant. Now my Siatic Nerve is causing me a lot of greif and I am having some work on my house which is causing be stress. Right now I have 5 men on my roof making all kinds of noise. My German Shephard is going crazy just like me.

Does the new dose sound right? If this makes any sense to anyone, please send your thoughts.

I am happy to read that they have not told you to hold 2 or 3 doses - seems like they have some idea of what is going on.

The change they recommend is a decrease of about 8% which might be a bit conservative but it might work. Holding one day should drop you closer into range so you might be just fine with their instructions.

I would go with it and see what happens next test. However, I would probably test again in 3 or 4 days.

I concur with Gina. Seems they know what they're doing and are being conservative. Which is better than aggressive with a 5.7 INR.

Have you tested a "normal" person on your INRatio just to see what the number is? I recommend it, if nothing else than to give you a sense of security with the readings on your machine. The "normal" person should test .8 - 1.2

I can't offer anything about the coumadin, but it looks like you're in good hands anyway.

I don't know if you were around for a thread a couple months ago about neuropathy, but the substance of it was that statin drugs can cause neuropathy--particularly in the feet. If it is the Zocor and it's causing you enough pain that you aren't walking you might want to talk with your doctor about the benefits of taking versus not taking the drug.

If it is the Zocor and it's causing you enough pain that you aren't walking you might want to talk with your doctor about the benefits of taking versus not taking the drug.

My PCP did take me off the Zocor about 7 months ago for 4 weeks. There was no change in the neuropathy. Maybe it would take longer than 4 weeks. He had me start taking it again because my numbers were wacky. (His words) Since the cause is undetermined I guess it very well could be the Zocar. I have an appointment to discuss things in a week. I will bring this up again. The neuropathy drugs have not helped at all so we are trying to find something to help. Thank you for your input.

when you see those tv ads where they tell you if you have muscle pain, call your doctor (when advertising a statin drug like Lipitor and Zocor), let him know. I had to give up Lipitor and it was keeping my numbers good, but crippling me.

They know what they are doing because of the wonderful people on this site. I had an INR of 5.5 6 months ago and I was told to hold two doses of 5mg, it fell to 1.7. They think twice before telling me to hold a dose now because I refuse to do it for anything below a 4.5, and I never will hold two doses again. I have not tested a "normal" person yet. My son's are the only ones that might let me and I forget when they stop by. My grandson didn't look too happy when I asked him.

I just ate a huge salad for dinner.

I have had problems with swelling on the top of my feet in fact today i noticed that my feet began to hurt and i began to limp since i know my body well this happens whenever my INR is out of wack and i have stress take care

And you know what, your probably not going to see a thing happen by eating that salad either.

You mention that you are walking less and drinking less water.
Those two things can increase your INR.
