Looks like I am headed for Aortic valve replacement and anyuerism repair. This looks like a good place to get some support so Iam just saing HI!

Good Morning and Hello fellow Buckeye

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people, lots of great info and lots of great support too! All you could ever want in on location.

Have you made any decisions on your predicament as of yet?

Hi Ross,
I have not figuered out how tp use this site yet let alone figure out what is comong up. Have had all the tests (stress, nuclear echo, TEE. I am scheduled to visit the surgeoon for the first time on Nov 6th. I have about a million questions questions but I think I will spe.nd some time on your site to see if I can get a little educated first . Thanks for your reply. Even though I have agreat family and friends that tell me not to worry, I am feeling a little alone at the moment.

Rest assured your not alone. 680 of us will testify to that fact! Feel free to read around, ask questions, vent, whatever, were here.

May I ask where you may be going for surgery?

At this point it looks like I will be having it done at Med Central in Mansfield. Any thoughts?

Not really at this time. I just sort of figured I'd ask. I'll leave you alone so you can get familiar with this place and then we can discuss what's going to go on and where and those sorts of things. There isn't anyone better to talk to then others like yourself. In case you haven't noticed, no matter how hard friends and family try, they just don't quite get how your feeling about the whole thing. If they don't have to experience it, they just don't understand it. We do and we'll help you sort through all of it.

Give a yell when your ready. ;)

Hi fisher-

Welcome to this terrific site. Everyone here gets it as far as this surgery goes, and much, much more. Just about any question you could ask, someone has had experience with and can offer insight. The support and understanding that we all find here is what keeps us coming back. No need for long winded explanations, most things are just silently understood.

I think we have all found that friends and most extended family members too are in the dark about what you are facing and what it means to you emotionally.

The best pre-surgery therapy is to read, read, read everything about your condition and the surgery. It's hard at first, but keep forging ahead and you will find your fears start to diminish.

My husband is the patient.

Best wishes,

Thanks for the warm welcome you guys. One of the biggest issues I have right now is how to determine where to have this done, or maybe a better question is how to determine whether one hospital and.or surgeon is that much better than another. After gaining some insight on that issue it looks like what type of valve to get will be a difficult choice. When I first learned of my situation I automatically thought mechanical because of "no re-op" down the road. After spending just a little time on this sight I realize that this decisiion might not be so cut and dried. At 52 years old, I don't relish the thought of doing this again.

Fisher -

It looks like you are in Ohio - home of the #1 hospital for cardiac surgery in the nation, the Cleveland Clinic. You might want to check it out and see if it is feasible. Otherwise, there are web sites out there that rate doctors, hospitals, etc. (help me out with the exact URL, guys. . . =)

Hey, Fisher - welcome to the scared zone. That is the part most of us entered - and then we found that the scared zone quickly become a peaceful zone. An area where you can open up, state your fears, deal with them through us, make your decisions with a clear head and with help from members of VR, hear what the hospital visit is like, all that good stuff. You are headed straight for your own personal miracle, believe it or not. Stay with us and we walk you to the mountain and help you get over it. God bless

Good Morning, Fisher and Welcome Aboard!!!

You have found a truly wonderful place with lots and lots of fantastic members. As you know, everyone here has either been through or has a spouse/significant other or loved one who has been through ohs. I'm Evelyn whose spouse, Tyce, had AVR in June 2002. At the time he was 59 and we both made the decision, along with our surgeon, to go with the mechanical for the very reason of hopefully not having to have any surgery again. The coumadin has NOT been any problem whatsoever. It is very manageable.....except for the summertime for some reason...and even then you know that all you need is an adjustment. I know I'm glad he had the mechanical valve put in, and I know he is, too.

You will make the right decision for you, and luckily you have time to think, question , discuss, study and come to the right decision for you. Please feel free to ask any questions.....you will definitely get lots of answers and opinions here.

Again, welcome....it's a wonderful family to belong to.

Evelyn

I having gone through so many surgeries have learned that it 's realy isn't fair of us to feel they should understand. Every one carry there oun burdens in life. Its just some bags appear more heavy then others.

Welome Fisher,

You found your home away from home. No one understands like we do. I myself didn't find this site until after surgery, but it has been just as helpful to me.

We are a group of caring and understandable people who some of which have been there and done that. So ask questions away and many people will have anwsers for you or can share their experiences of research, pre surgery jitters, post surgery blues and how all it is very normal. Welcome aboard!

Hey Fisher,
This is from another Fisher. I'm glad you found this site before surgery. I think it's the longest, hardest part of the whole ordeal...waiting for the surgery and making all of the needed decisions. I think if I were in your location I would definately check into the Cleveland Clinic. Good luck and keep us all posted!!!

Hi Fisher
I also would like to welcome you to this site. If you don't mind my asking, what is the size of your aneurysm?
Kathy

Welcome, Fisher

Welcome, Fisher

Congrats on having found this site. We are friendly and nosy and care for our members like family.

You need to check out previous threads. A lot of questions will be answered (in fact, there will be questions you had NO IDEA you should be asking. ). There will also be information that's quite scary for a newbie. But please continue to plow through it - you'll become more comfortable with it and will be much better off for having learned so much.

You'll have lots of questions about your own situation. Feel free to ask.

And if I'd had any idea what was going on, you can believe I'd have tried to have my surgery at Cleveland Clinic. That's what I'd advise anyone who had the option.

Welcome again!
