Hello all! I've been gone awhile and it's taking some time to read up on everyone's accomplishments. Some of you have been very busy!
I've been in the process of buying a new house, selling the old one and moving since September. I've had a lot of projects to complete around here, so I haven't had much time read and post. 2006 turned out to be a very eventful year for me.
The best thing about the new house is that it's located near some awesome training spots. I'm really excited about it. Across the road there is a 14 mile trail that parallels the Stono River here in Charleston. A friend gave me a nice used mountain bike to ride the trail and I've been running out there with my dogs too. I'm also close to some nice long road rides on John's Island. There's a pool about 10 minutes away too. I have no excuse not to stay in shape now.
I skipped out on my planned December half-marathon since I was in the middle of moving, and I got a little out of shape in the midst of all of this, so I had to revise some of my goals.
I'm registered for a 5k on January 27th (Charlie Post Classic) and my goal is to beat 25 minutes. I registered with a friend who I ride bikes with. We're using this race as a workup for the Cooper River Bridge Run 10k on March 31st, followed by a century ride the next day. This will be the first organized century for both of us. The 10k is really a warm-up for the ride which we consider the main event. It's pretty much impossible to run hard for the entire 10k because there are so many people. It's fun though. We have a $1.00 bet on who has the lowest combined 10k+century time.
We'll see where things go after that, but the Assault on Marion and the Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series are marked on my calendar.
Happy New Year everyone. I can't believe how time flies. It's been seven months since my surgery now and except for the now fading scar and the sometimes annoying (but always reassurring) clicking noise in my chest, I wouldn't even know I had surgery.
Take care,
Adam
