Sheesh! I had a most interesting day at work today.
FYI, I work on a bone marrow transplant/medical oncology floor. We have a wide range of acuity "how sick you are", ranging from fevers to acutely ill, on the vent.
Today I had two of my three patients having heart problems. One has a long history of problems, has an ICD. He'd been tachycardic all day long, and today cardiology decided to give him adenosine to see if they could convert his rhythm. Of course, the ICD short circuited that!! (Literally LOL). For those of you who don't know adenosine (and I hope I never get to know it), it's injected IV and basically stops your heart for a few seconds. The idea is that when it restarts it reverts back to a "normal" rhythm. Later I went in his room and he asked me what the h*** that was. Of course, in the midst of all this we're having tornado warnings and actuallly had a funnel cloud across the street from the hospital. (made the power go off for a few seconds!!).
I have two more days to work this weekend, so I can't imagine things being any more exciting!!!!!
Oh, on a valve replacement note, one of our new nurses had aortic valve replacement and showed me his scar LOL. He's doing great, had it over at university of KY.
