Over the past few weeks I have had an increase in "heartburn" AT first I assumed it was from something that I ate but then after several more days I noticed I had bouts a different times of the day etc. One day I had a really bad case and was experienceing some intense "burning pain" I had this thought "I wonder if what my blood pressure is and if this is related to my ascending aortic anneurysm". (Even though supposedly there are not symptomatic. I left work and went over to Eckerds which i did have 147/92. My cardio had recommended that I keep an eye on my blood pressure and said if it get's above 130 take another dose of the nefedipine. When I got back to the office I did that and in 15 minutes the pain was gone..

It has been about a week and only a couple of times I have felt a mild case of "heartburn" and checked my blood pressure which was right at 130/88.
Other wise my blood pressure has been close to 120/80.

I am curious if any one else has had a similiar experience. I remember someone on here mentioning that they had an anneurysm that was discovered when she was trying to find the cause of "heartburn" she was experiencing... I can probably do a search and find out who that was but if you are looking in I would like to chat with you or anyone else that has this.

Hi Bethanne

Hi Bethanne

That was probably me you were thinking about...but I never had heartburn.......I started burping really badly after my Mom died in October and went to the hospital on Christmas Day....I got really winded going up and down steps loading the Car with Xmas presents..I just felt funny. They tried to treat me for acid reflux..but I kept telling them..I have no burning..so after a few weeks of testing..my pcp sent me for a MRI..and sent me to a cardio..where he found it. (Thru a heart cath)..That was on a Thursday and I had surgery the following Monday..........My burping was diagnosed as aerophagia...swallowing of air...I still have it..but can control it pretty good.. :p :p Have to watch out for certain things. like caffiene....The only thing that gives me heartburn or acid reflux is chocolate.I think the burping saved my life..I would have never thought to go to a doctor.E-mail me if you want to chat some more. Hmmm... Not familiar with the medication you're on, here's another "related" story though:

I have acid reflux which often creates a sensation of heart burn. The reflux is most-likely caused by all the "happy little pills" I take every day, including one to treat the heartburn...

I'm on Prilosec OTC after having seen an ENT over the summer who found two little ulcers near my vocal chords. I use the over the counter stuff because I don't have prescription coverage and the 'scrip version is 3 times the price and the EXACT same pill, though it's in different packaging.

I have to pay more attention to some of the food I eat, mostly sausage and other meats with spices in them. There's more to what's going on than just the reflux, but it's under much better control than it used to be.

Ask a doc about checking out both possibilities, or others that might apply. Both are pretty serious (though the anneurysm might be more life-threatening) and should be checked out.

Interesting Harpoon...

Have you given up Caffeine in all forms (such as coffee, tea, cola and other soft drinks, and CHOCOLATE) ?

Also tomatoes and spicy foods. Gets BORING doesn't it?

Did you know that Tight Pants can aggrivate Reflux? yep, it's true. Raising the head of your bed 6 to 8 inches is supposed to help also.

It can be difficult to impossible to tell the difference between severe reflux and a heart attack. I can testify to that!
