although this has been answered a hundred times before I am sure I would like to know the pros and cons of the different types of valves, i.e. porcine versus mechanical and also the future prognosis for doing our types of surgeries. I am having Mitral valve surgery and leaning towards a mech. valve. Just want more info before surgery day, thx for all your input.

Honestly, the easiest thing for you and everyone else is if you read the Valve selection forum. Everyone has their own personal preference, and you can read and decide for yourself as you review the threads and posts there.

You're right, this is an ongoing subject of discussion, and that is the reason a forum is devoted exclusively to valve selection.
Whatever you decide is right for you; there are No wrong valve selections.
