How fast is your heart rate supposed to be after valve replacement? I woke up this morning, moved around house a little bit and when I checked heart rate it was 105, is this too high? Thanks in advance.

out of surgery my heart rate was 117
when i got home heart rate was 110
called surgeon he added a thirs metrporl 50mg
when i went to the cardio ultra sound showed small amount of fluid on my heart
she kept me on the three metrplrol
well pulse is down to 67-80 depending 5 weeks
I am informed that high heart rate is natural

Post op my high heart drove me crazy, so my surgeon said I could take Metoprolol.
Talk to your docs, and make sure to rest often. Give your heart a chance to heal.

I am on Metoprolol. I called my surgeon and he said that as long as I'm not having chest pains and shortness of breath he thinks I can wait until my Friday check up then they will do chest x-ray and ekg and what ever other tests I may need. I think it may be up because I choke a lot on mucus from another problem I have which has been a big thorn in my recovery. Sometimes I choke on thick mucus for hours before I find something that will get it up, so I'm sure that it is part of the problem. Thanks for your replies.

I hope all goes well for you. It is normal to have a higher heart rate after surgery. It will fluctuate for a couple of months while the heart heals. As far as the mucus goes does a nice hot drink loosen it any for you. Whenever I have a lot of mucus I drink a hot tea as hot as I can & it seems to do the trick.

Mine was about that for a few weeks, toporol was 100mg a day and then started to wean off it. I still take 12.5 mg a day and my resting rate is 50 now so don't worry , it will get back to normal.
