I am taking 3 different heart meds I was taking them all at 9am then 2 hours later I was wiped out sleepy and very tired. I did a little experiment staggering the meds by 2 hours apart and now I have alot more energy. I am no longer tired or sleepy during the day. You would think a dr would tell you to do this.

My surgeon told me I need to start coming off all the heart meds and lassix and I should only be taking coumadin. I still do not have an appointment with my cardiologist. I was to get a letter or a call for an appointment but nothing.
The VA really drags there feet on this. The only thing I can say good about the VA is that they saved me about 200,000.

What med are you on beside the lasix and coumadin?

Just curious.

I'm on a bunch (see below) and I take everything but the coumadin in the morning before breakfast (the lasix seems to work more on an empty stomach and none of the meds seem to bother my tummy) and the lasix, spironolactone, and coumadin before dinner.

When they first released me they had this big sheet of paper with all the meds I took listed on it (I think the count was over twelve) and times to take each one... WOW, WAS THAT A HEADACHE!!!

I gave up on it after about two days. Two of the meds, amiodarone and coumadin, couldn't be taken at the same time so that's why I take coumadin at night. I'm off the amiodarone.

3 of the meds I was on when I left the hospital were for upset stomach and reflux because of all the other meds I was on. Funny thing though, as soon as I left the hospital, the upset stomach and acid reflux from the meds all but disappeared so I went off of them.

I was also on synthroid to support my thyroid which had taken a hit when I was in CHF along with several other organs. The docs had said I could discontinue that after a month and that's what I did.

I haven't noticed any chances in energy levels depending on when and how I take my meds. I DO know that I get rather ornery and "that bloated/overloaded feeling" if I miss my lasix by an hour or more...

I'm off the Toprol Xl now, and haven't experienced any arrythmias or racing heartbeats, so I guess I won't be on that med again.

That leaves me with baby aspirin, Lipitor, and warfarin. I take the Lipitor and warfarin with dinner (because I like grapefruit for breakfast and it reacts with Lipitor; and so I can make a dosage change on the warfarin if the Dr. calls during the day) and the aspirin in the a.m.

I also take a number of vitamins/supplements to keep my vision good, and I take those right before bed, just as a way of remembering.

I suppose I could take them all with dinner, and just choke down a big handful of pills with my wine..... ;)
