Does any know of a Good Heart Hospital in Dayton OH?

Would it be better to go to someplace in Cinncinati?
If so, where?

Info needed for a travelling patient.

Al,
I can't help with that one but if you decide to come a little farther north let me know.

Dayton

There is a new hospital in Dayton that just does cardiac surgery. It has a good reputation, but I can't remember name for certain. Think that it might be Dayton Heart Institute. We live 1 hour from Dayton, but will ONLY go to Cleveland Clinic. That does not make the others bad, but Joann is a VERY HIGH RISK and we want the BEST!

I live in Dayton. It depends on what you want done. Dayton has 4 good hospitals for heart work:Miami Valley Hospital, Kettering Hospital, The Dayton Heart Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.

I just had a redo CABG and AVR with a Homograft done at the Cleveland Clinic. If you are looking for valve replacement the Cleveland Clinic does more of them than any hospital in the U.S. They are a 3 & 1/2 hour drive from Dayton.

Thanks ALL for the replies.

I've already had CABG and AVR (St. Jude Mechanical Valve / lifetime Coumadin user) so I'm not really looking for a hospital for surgery, just want to know where I should go 'just in case' I develop some problem while visiting in Dayton. Want to be a good Boy Scout and "Be Prepared". Recommendations?

Al,

Three places in Cincinnati proper come to mind: Christ, Jewish and Bethesda North. You've already got opinions about Christ and Jewish. I've used Bethesda North several times, and that's where I had my recent AVR and pacemaker implant. I had a great experience there: Bethesda's cardiovascular program is a little different than Christ and Jewish; Bethesda has a combined ICU/step-down unit for cardiovascular patients (and, in fact, similar units for several other kinds of patients), so I didn't change rooms when I got out of intensive care, and the patient/nurse ratio stayed very low the whole time I was in the hospital. Bethesda's heart surgery center was recently rated "best in Cincinnati", though I'm not sure who did the rating; if you'd like to know, I can look it up.

There are several other Greater-Cincinnati-area hospitals that are closer to Dayton than Christ, Jewish or Bethesda North, but I don't have any experience with them, and I don't know anyone who does. Two names come to mind: Mercy Hospital Fairfield and Middletown Regional. Of the two, Middletown Regional is closest to Dayton, though it's really only "close" if you'll be staying on the south side of Dayton.
