Hi Everyone,

I have a question:

If you only have had a valve replaced due to circumstance other than CHF, and are filling out a life insurance form, when you get to the question " Have you had Heart Disease or been treated for a Heat Condition?" would you check "Yes" or "No"?

For example, I had an aortic dissection which tore into my heart valve, so they replaced it. Diagnosis... Connective Tissue Disorder. My heart is fine... it's the plumbing.

Anyway, I have been considering some mortgage insurance, and sure enough,,,that is one of the questions. I would hate to pay for insurance, then have something happen, and they do not honor the claim based on how I answer that question.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Rob

.....And I'd hate to tell you to put yes to heart disease and not get the insurance. I do believe the answer is yes. They keep putting mine down as Aortic Valve Disease. Maybe we should wait for some insurance experts on this one?

Hey Rob, after this type of surgery...we are not insurable. At least that is what we were informed by our finanical advisor. Fortunatley, my life policy was in place prior to. Now with cancer, (we had to check that out) one can be eligable if you are clear for 5 years at a higher premium. Sounds like a double standard if you ask me.

As for the mortgage insurance. There are many many companies out there that do not ask questoins for insurable amounts under 200K.

Take care and let us know what you find.

YES

YES

Sorry, Rob, the answer is yes. The actuaries take it from there. The company may wish to send you to one of their doctors before they rate you.

Hi Rob.
Fortunately I don't have to have those policies in my name, but when it came to possibly changing insurance plans within the same carrier we were told because of my surgery and being on coumadin we couldn't switch. Not even within the same company! We were trying to lower our premium rates of $2000 a month!!! I was just told by my doc the other day I didn't have "heart disease"! Try telling that to insurance companies. It's all about the bottom line!

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll just have to win the lottery.
In the meantime, I can bump up my life insurance through work, but as far as outside coverage, I may be out of luck according to all your info.

If anything comes of this, I will be sure to post.

Good health to all!

Rob

Rob

Years ago before I was married I was uninsurable because of my heart condition. When I did get a job that offered to give me health insurance they put a waiver on anything to do with my heart for one year.

Hey Rob

Hey Rob

After Cindy and I built the house I looked into the mortgage insuance anddid find a Company that would insure me for what seemed to be a reasonable rate.
I insure the mortgage for approximately $250 K and it costs me approximately $850.00 per year.
They are fully aware of my surgery and diagnosis, I actually sent them copies of my medical records.

Hope that helps...

Anyhow how are you and Cristi?

Ben
