I have another cardiology appointment at the VA in Fargo tomorrow...I'll know better then what my status is. Last year in May my aortic stenosis was at 0.8 cm2, which is the same as it was the previous year. I am asymptomatic, although I do 'run out of gas' earlier than I used to. I am a 65 year old male. The last cardiologist said that he suspected that I had a calcified bicuspid valve, not a tricuspid...although it was difficult to tell from the sonographs...he said my heart was strong. So, a bit more than a year later I'll see what's going on. No change in three years before though...I keep on tickin'.

Best wishes for a good report at tomorrow's appointment. I hope you mention that you seem to be getting tired more quickly. That's a symptom that some put down to the aging process. I know my friend did, and turns out, it was her deteriorating valve that was the underlying cause. Keep us updated if you can.:smile2:

Well...I mis-wrote the other day. My stenosis last year was between 1.2 and 1.4 cm2...with this check up the cardiologist says I'm at 1.1 to 1.3 cm2...I need knee replacement as well and have been holding off to find out more about my heart. The cardiologist suggests I go ahead now with my knee replacement(s) so that I am in shape for my eventual aortic valve replacement. He suggests that if I wait until after my valve job and an infection arises in the knee, it could be dangerous for the heart as well. Since I will probably have my valve replaced at the VA in Minneapolis, my options are limited for type of surgery. It looks (today) as if I will have a complete open chest surgery. I was hoping for intercostal surgery...or even a catheter percutaneous. He said that if I wanted to take my medicare off campus and go to someplace like the Cleveland Clinic I might be able to have less invasive surgery. He also recommends a mechanical valve. I'm a young looking 65 year old...knees and heart aside, I'm in good shape.
