Have you been ablated?

Hi there. I posted a similar post on the ACHD site but thought maybe more of you have had the experience. I am trying to decide whether to have an ablation or not due to SVTs, some VTAch, and being on metoprolol. If you have had an ablation, did it work, what was it like, would you do it again?
Thanks, Karen

Yes, I had an ablation 3 years ago because of tachycardia resulting in dizziness etc. It fixed my problem and I was up and about the same day feeling fine. I would certainly do it again if the situation warranted it. That being said, there are risks involved, so not something to be done without proper investigation.

I had an A-V node ablation because of A-fib. I had gone through all the medications for over 15 years and a couple of cardioversions. Finally did the ablation. I did have to have a pacemaker implanted, but I don't feel the A-fib or the symtoms now. LINDA

I have right ventricular tachycardia...was sent to an electrophysiologist in February for an ablation, but ended up not needing the ablation b/c my V-Tach is non-sustained. Hopefully yours is non-sustained, too. But even though I had the EP study, I had pretty awful palpitations the day after. Nothing to worry about; it's just b/c the doc's been messing around in your heart.

Good luck with your procedure, though--hope it turns out awesome!

My wife's cardiologist has been wanting her to have it done for quite a few years now. Before my big ordeal and surgery, we were very leary of letting someone mess around with the heart. She has forgotten on a couple occasions to take her toprol and I had to take her to the ER for conversion? Is that what they call it? Well, now with the Chest pains, I'm sure that she is going to be going thru alot more tests to see what is causing that. We were afraid of the pacemaker .

Well, I spoke to Dr. Phillips today about the ablation questions. My card here was very nonchalant and acted like it was no big deal. But Dr. Phillips pointed out that it would do nothing for the nonsustained Vtach and that it also would be useless for the million PVCs I have every day. She also said that with any procedure there are risks and that given all the issues I have that it WONT help, it wouldnt be worth the risks. So I guess I will stay on med awhile. At the end of the month, I will change over to Toprol. Thanks for the responses. If anyone else has some thoughts, pass them on to me. Karen

I had an ablation for the AV and SA node and a pacemaker implanted. The AV node ablation worked the first time but the SA node was difficult to find. We went on and tried 4 more times the 5th using an open heart techinque with that one working. The fourth time some of the dye entered the right coronary artery and the entire artery was dissected. I flat lined on the table and had to have 6 stents placed. I still have PVCs daily and silent afib and now a defibrillator implaned for vfib.

Kathleen, that sounds awful! I am sorry you had to go through all that. It just points out that there are indeed risks and make me kind of upset with my card. here because he keeps acting like it is no big deal. For you , it was a very big deal. Thanks for the response. I think I will def stick wtih the med!
