Thanks you guys for your support on that TEE thing, brief history, went to doc for chest pains, now I have had them on and off for yrs, been to ER several times also ,put in hospital overnight one time,I keep getting all these different causes ,plurisa, myositis, some say it has to do with symptoms of MV,but I really don't think it has to do with my heart,I get theses really bad pains that start at my back between my shoulders, then they rediate all thru my muscles in my chest and back, the more movement I have the more pain and I have a really hard time breathing feels like my chest is closing up,
Now to the heart question, does this in anyway ,which they have found no shrinkage in my arteries, deal with any symptoms due to any mitral related illness,I don't want to be cut on because they can't find out why I have these symptoms they call them clincial chest pains,I probably will hear about my TEE this Monday, and if they do talk cutting I hope you guys are up on your bed side manner cause I'am going to need it,plus a lot of questions, and how can they be sure that cutting is going to fix this.

Jade,
Has anyone ever tested you for GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)?

I have GERD and get spasm similar to what you are experiencing. I take Prilosec which holds them at bay most times though I will experience them periodically.

Might be worth mentioning to your doc.

Take care

P.S. Jade,

As far as the cutting goes.... we have to rely on our cardio's expertise as to when surgery is needed. I do know that a mitral valve that is damaged will only get worse over time...not better. But I don't think that they will perform surgery on you until they deem that it is needed.

Take care,
Zazzy

Gallbladder attacks can also mimic heart attacks. I finally had mine out, but not before my "old" PCP put me in the cardiac unit for 4 days only to find out it was my gallbladder. He also misread my scans and xrays, and told me my gallbladder was fine when it was full of stones.

jade45,

Five years ago I had similar symptoms, they occur only during or right after eating. After some testing I was diagnosed as having Esophageal achalasia, this is spasms of the valve (sphincter) from the esophagus to the stomach that does not relax and loss of the wave-like contraction of smooth muscles of the esophagus that forces food through the digestive tract. This resulted in food that is trapped in the esophagus producing similar symptoms that you described.

Jack.
