hi all my daughter had a spell where she was just sitting on the computer and she got real hot and she just really shakey for about 10 mins this spell lasted was real lightheaded also

Well, I can't say I've had a spell like that while sitting, but in the past I've been like walking in the mall, started to feel hot, dizzy, an lightheaded. I headed for the nearest shop with drinks. I remember buying a sprite, popping the top, taking a sip, laying my head down then everything went white I guess a few seconds later I felt fine. Since then, I haven't had many more like it -- just everynow and then -- usually out walking the mall or something when it happens. If I start feeling overheated or something I would just get a drink and sit down. However, I haven't had a spell like that in years. Don't know if this helps any, because I never knew what caused it or why it stopped. My advise is if it worries you though -- call the dr and talk to them about it -- best of luck and take care.

Hi Ohio. Several thoughts come to mind. Some people have neurological reactions to computer screens. Mostly it's computer games though...it tangles up the brain somehow and can cause seizures....some kind of epilepsy I think. Does she spend a lot of time in front of the computer? Perhaps you should suggest that she limit the time she spends, or takes breaks away from the screen for awhile. Sometimes I know that I have had migrane headaches triggered by too much time on the computer.

Secondly, due to her age, she may be expeirencing some hormone fluctuations which could possibly cause the sweating and shakes. Maybe jot down when, during her month, these things occur.

Given that she is having all kinds of symptoms that are causing you both concern, I would STRONGLY recommend that you get a calendar book and have her write down her symptoms for a month or so every time they occur. If there is some kind of a detectable pattern, then she could help herself overcome them with a doctor's help.

It may be that due to the scary news about her heart that she is having panic attacks and they are manifesting themselves in these weird ways.

These are very real things for her and it is absolutley wonderful that you are honoring her by asking us and, hopefully still, her doctors for help. By writing everything down when it happens, you will have clearer information to give your doctor. Things like, what had she just eaten when she got all shakey. How long had she been on the computer? was she using the IM and having lots of words bouncing back and forth on the screen, or was she just reading some text for homework? Is she in the middle of her cycle? Does she also get a headache? that kind of thing.

Hope this helps. Keep asking!! :)

dizzy, blacking out

dizzy, blacking out

I'm having problems, too. I have a mechanical mitral valve. My cardio is also into hypertension, and has me on altace and atacand in addition to the betablockers (sotalol and coreg) that I take to discourage a-fib. I get dizzy spells, and finally blacked out and fell down Monday morning. This is not good-- as I feel lighteheaded, and it will affect my work as an engineer. My alternative doc says to back off from atacand and altace and see if it helps. Been trying it for 2 or 3 days. Seems to help a little, but not too sure yet. Has anybody got any help for me ??

dizziness solved--it was dangerous

dizziness solved--it was dangerous

Just a follow up to my previous post. The dizzy spells usually lasted 3 to 5 seconds. Finally I got potassium depleted one day (diarrhea), and had lots of dizzy spells that evening. Finally collapsed around 9:30. Turns out my heart was actually stopping during those intervals. I was given a pacemaker that night and told I was lucky it didn't happen during my sleep.

Moral: don't ignore dizzy spells.

Could it just be low blood sugar? My Mom gets like that when it's been a long time since she ate. It's a thought but still let the doctor know!

One more possibility - probably not it - but I will toss it out there anyway.
I once ran a fever of I guess right around 101 and all of sudden developed uncontrollable shakes. Never experienced anything like that in my whole life.
I had to leave work and drive myself home and it got so bad while driving that I would literally have to switch hands one the steering wheel because the other one was shaking so bad. I got home, took a bath to try to warm up (freezing naturally) and my body was shaking all over. Even my teeth were rattling. Got in bed, took some aspirin, and I finally got the fever under control, and it all went away.

Sounds like hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) to me. It happens if one goes too long without eating and replenishing their carbohydrates (sugars).

My husband has been getting dizzy spells. Last week's Holter monitor showed 27 times his heart rate pased for over 2 seconds each time. Some were almost three seconds. And 97 times in 24 hours he had ectopic beats.
Needs a pacemaker, we are told.

Going next week on the 4th to see the pacemaker guy. He does take a beta blocker.
