I am not sure of the spelling!!! but it is a congenital syndrome that causeses narrowing of the great vessels, such as aortic coarctation, and aortic stenosis.
could someone send me a reference to it???? Bob H ?????
i know it is pretty rare.

thanks!!!

I am not familiar with Stron syndrome, which is why it's good so many us are here. There's almost always someone who knows.

However, coartcation of the aorta is not unheard of in connection with bicuspid valve disease. One of its effects is that it causes high blood pressure by slowing blood delivery to the kidneys, which then signal the heart to send more blood, even though most of hte body is otherwise well-served.

Here are some more links, both easier to understand:

Shone syndrome?

Shone syndrome?

There is a Shone Syndrome. While it is most often associated with mitral valve issues, this reference includes the bicuspid aortic valve:

"The concurrence of both left ventricular inflow tract obstruction (including supravalvar mitral ring, parachute mitral valve) and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (including subvalvar LVOTO, bicuspid aortic valve and aortic coarctation) is known as Shone syndrome." http://www.cachnet.org/managing_recomp2.html

There are numerous hits on web searches for this.

I know two families with children who have Shrones. I can try and put you in touch if this would be any help?
