I'm new.. since I joined at this time I wanted to share a Happy Heart Day with everyone.
I used to be a member of a listserv specifically for folks with Congenital Heart Disease, and several of them banded together to get a Day of Recognition by their states or cities to advance the awareness of Congenital Heart Defects.

They chose Valentine's Day, and I've attended at least one reception where heart patients, parents, and doctors shared on the impact of congenital heart defects in their lives. I'm not sure it happened this year (I'm in Massachusetts and the statehouse just went into recess after a rather busy week) but still think it's a great day for anyone with any Heart problems to celebrate.

Hooray for being alive and having support of friends, family and (most of the time) a medical community working hard to keep us going!

Happy Heart Day!

Thanks Alice and right back at you! For me, heart surgery was like the close of one half of my life, and the start of the other half. I just was not sure where the other half would start .... down here or up above! :D Now we just have to smile and make the best of a 'minor' setback. Again ... "Happy Heart Day."

Alice,
I'm so glad you joined us. I've only been on the site for a few weeks but have been amazed at the information and support that are available here. Not having had my surgery yet, I'm not one of those knowledgable sources, but if you have any questions or concerns almost certainly someone can provide an answer or direction. Support, we all do well!

It's funny, but I never really associated Valentine's Day with hearts - I mean, our hearts that keep us alive.

But this year, waiting around to get *fixed*, every time I see a heart logo, shape or design, it am reminded that my heart is there and keeps beating. It's kind of neat, and Valentine's Day will probably always be more special for me, now.

The heart is THE most important organ, yet most people don't even think about it much. I know that we're all aware, and feel those PACs, PVCs, A-FIBs, etc.. Even when the heart is just beating (or soon, TICKING :D ) we're reminded that it's there and working, for now.

Does that make us more self-centered or focused? I don't think so- I like to think that it just makes us more aware of the miracle of waking up to a new day, and appreciating what we've be given: a chance to experience another day, a chance to make a difference in someone's life; a chance to make the world a little better place.

Happy Heart Day to all of you, too!
