I think everyone should gather at Phyllis's house for cake and to celebrate your birthday!

You can all make one- it's easy. Here's the recipe, but I don't think it's on the weight watcher's list, Mary:

Black Forest cake
12-16 servings
1 package (18.25 ounces) devil's food cake mix

3 eggs

3/4 cup water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling, drained, with 1/2 cup sauce reserved

1 cup (1/2 pint) heavy cream

3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

1 container (16 ounces) chocolate frosting


1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat two 9-inch round cake pans with nonstick cooking spray.

2. In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, oil, and the reserved 1/2 cup cherry sauce; mix well. Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans.

3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes then invert onto wire racks to cool completely.

4. Beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form; beat in the confectioners' sugar. Place a cooled cake layer upside-down on a serving platter and cover the top with half of the whipped cream; scatter the drained cherries over the whipped cream.

5. Place the second cake layer over the first and frost the sides with the chocolate frosting. Frost the top with the remaining whipped cream. Serve, or cover loosely and chill until ready to serve.

FINISHING TOUCH: To give this an extra touch of elegance, top the cake with chocolate curls and additional cherries or chocolate-covered cherries.

WOW... What a surprise to read all your great wishes for my B-Day!

Thank you all! I know I have not been on as much as I used to be. Hopefully I have rounded a corner and will be more active than the last year.
It was a tough year for me last year, with my mom's valve surgery, and then her passing away later in the year. I just needed a break from it all.

OK.. soooo....

Ross.. Besides my wife, I am also taking my new camera to Germany tomorrow. I'll work the first week, and she can explore locally, but then I will take the 2nd week as vacation, and we intend on traveling through eastern and northen Germany. At the moment we plan to stay in Berlin, then Dresden, and then on to Hamburg. Hopefully I will get some good intel pictures to share with everyone.

hensylee.. I loved the picture of the Party Animal. It looks like he/she could drink it's way out of any difficult situation!

Phyllis.. I can taste that cake now! I have to tell you though. I have asked and asked for this while over there. The funny thing is.. No one there knows what "German" chocolate cake is!!!

Now since you are sharing receipes though... I thought I would also share my receipe for "German Chocolate Cake" but beware... this is not food, it is a drink and it is amazing!

Mix into a rocks glass a 50/50 mix of the following. It doesn't have to be full, just a enough for a good shooter. No ice.

Grey Goose Vodka
Frangeloco Liqeur

You now must also prepare a wedge of lemon dipped in "Sugar".. Yes, sugar, not salt. This isn't a tequilla drink!

Now.. Take a good sip of the mix, and then after taking the sip, bite into the lemon wedge that was dipped in sugar!

I know it sounds strange... but honestly.. your taste buds will dance to the rich taste of the Best German Chocolate Cake in the world! Give it a try!

Mary.. I second that! Let's go! between her receipe and mine, I am sure we would all be in for a wonderful time! Bring your sweet tooth!

Who cares if German Chocolate Cake is not at all German? It originally comes from Dallas, Texas, and its name comes from the sweet chocolate baking bar, close in character to milk chocolate, developed for Baker's Chocolate Co. in 1852 by Sam German.

How about a good apple kuchen- you must be able to find that there!
