I just wanted to write a post to express my thankfulness for being able to celebrate my 40th birthday with a repaired heart that will hopefully last another 40
It's been 2 1/2 weeks since my surgery, and recovery is going well. The scar is healing faster than I thought, and there is not much pain except in the morning. They did the first post-op echo the other day, and the new valve and the repaired valve are both working great, according to my surgeon who was there to see the echo himself. They mentioned something about the septum moving a little "out of sync", but explained this is pretty common for hearts with surgery done on them.
I am more short of breath just walking than I thought I would be at this point, but it's improving a little every day. My pulse still has a very narrow operating range: 90 rest to 105-110 while walking. This should widen as the heart heals and with more exercise.
