HACKER WARNING----my email account has been hacked (?) and is sending out msgs to ALL my address book saying that I have bought a new I phone model number xxx etc. with a referral to their web site. This msg is NOT from me, DON"T click on their stupid web site.
Sorry about the inconvenience, I would never send out such a msg.:mad2:

Hey if they want to send me an I phone for the free advertising that "I" am doing, maybe then we can talk about it.
Oh ya, then I can call u from my new I phone, how cool is that?
This is a major pain in the butt, I just changed my password, and now I should copy all my addys and send out emails with explanations?
I am also missing the last 3 months of emails.....someone stole them to have current addys? Grrrr.

It happens. Not a lot you can do about it. Try to let people know that their addresses may have been had and that's about all you can do.

A Facebook phishing attack is on the loose this weekend -- the third widespread attack on the site in the past three weeks.

The attack attempts to steal your Facebook login credentials, install malware on your computer, and even get your home address.

The attack is spread via a "hilarious video" posted to Facebook walls, reports WebSense -- when clicked, a form appears requesting your Facebook login.

The attack then returns you to Facebook, installs an app called "Media Player HD," and asks you to download the "FLV player" -- doing so installs malware on your machine.

It gets worse: Depending on your location, you may also be presented with a contest to win an iPad ... if you just enter your home address.

To avoid getting caught, simply remove the "hilarious video" if you find it on your Facebook wall.

If you see it elsewhere on Facebook, don't click it ... and of course remember the obvious rule: Don't enter your Facebook login anywhere other than Facebook.com.

If you already fell for the attack, change your Facebook password, uninstall the Facebook app (often called "Media Player HD"), and run a virus/malware scan on your computer.

This video explains the attack.

Same thing happened to me

Same thing happened to me

Bina, a couple of months ago the exact same thing happened to me. I noticed it was from a hotmail account that I never use except on occasion (I peek into it to keep it from expiring). I was sure it was because of Facebook because they can use Hotmail addresses to find friends to send invitations to.

What I did is the same thing I did to my normal e-mail account that someone told me to do a long time ago. You make a new "contact" called "A A A A". It will be the first name in the alphabetical list of names. Of course you do not put in any other information. When they try to send messages from your account, it will get blocked on the first name, "A A A A", or at least that is what I was told.

Ross, you know more about computer technology. Does this method make sense?

Ross, I don't ever install any apps or media add ons....nothing gets on here unless I check with hubby. But I do realize that sometimes there are add-ons that I may not realize are already in progress when I switch sites with FaceBook open.

Adrienne, my thoughts were that by having different email accounts for various web sites that would protect me somewhat, I guess not. I did notice on Sunday that mysteriously all of my recent emails had just vanished, hubby blamed hotmail, but in all my years with hotmail that has never happened before. I also have 2 yahoo accts which are fine. Facebook is not even tied into my hotmail at all, it has another email acct. Is your head spinning yet? Mine is. :)

Facebook equals the Problem Child. It's just a mater of time until I own all of you. Muhhahahhaha.
