OKAY! It is snowing! And I just planted 35 flowerpots this weekend!

GRRRRRRRRR.....

You did what???

You did what???

Here in the mountains of Colorado in April??? ;) You know the lyrics of that song that go, "When it's springtime in the Rockies, it's 40-below"? Well, that is not entirely true, but...

I can totally relate to what you did - it is SO hard to wait until Memorial Day Weekend to plant flowers. As you know, up here in the Estes Park area, that is the rule of thumb - to not plant flowers (annuals) (in the ground at least) until Memorial Day. I always buy hanging baskets earlier - those can be brought in in case of inclement weather.

I hope you planted mainly pansies - they are so hardy.

That is the hardest part for me about living up here at elevation - the flower season is so short, but the summers are glorious while they last.

We will get probably at least one more snow, I'm sure, if not more, so try to control yourself! :D We DO need the moisture, though.

Had to plant them (and I do usually wait until after Mem. Day) because we're having an extended family reunion up here next weekend. The nice thing is that by Wednesday, we're back up into the 50's.

And I know what you mean about the moisture...it's already crunchy when we hike around our land and that's not something we usually see (hear?) until late August.

In the early seventies, my ex-husband and I towed our motorcycles behind our camper from Ohio to Estes Park to ride throughout the area. We started out Memorial weekend so we could go to the Indy 500 on the way to Colorado. I remember when we were camping in Leadville, we woke up to frozen water the next morning in the mugs that we had unintentionally left outside. The news had information on the clearing of one of the passes that was closed in winter being cleared over Memorial weekend in record time - 4 DAYS.   I think it was one of the passes in Roosevelt National Forest. Anyway it was cold at night but, OMG, the blue sky that awaited us when we peeked out each morning has never been surpassed in my memory. Even tho I got rid of the husband, the memories of Colorado were fresh when I visited again in early 2004. It's like traveling through giant perfect 3D photographs.
Keep blankies on those flowers, Pam.

I love your description of

I love your description of

Colorado, Gina. You are right on - it is such a beautiful state. The mountains are so gorgeous - although Wayne and I are headed to the Outer Banks of North Carolina next week for a short vacation trip (tacked onto a work trip of Wayne's). I am SOOOO looking forward to being around the ocean again. It is my new passion. God really outdid himself on the good ole' USA. I love the plains, the mountains, the ocean, the desert....

Gina, I loved your statement "I got rid of the husband." ;)

P.S. Pam, yes put a blankie on the plants the next time it snows (which it will most likely). I heard the temperature in Denver is supposed to be in the 70s by the end of the week - that means upper 50s and 60s around our parts. Yay!!!! Your flowers will have a reprieve.
