Has anyone seen this amazing documentary? It's now on DVD, about the man who spent his summers living with the Grizzly Bears in Alaska. He did this for 13 years until things did not go well. A look at the human mind, right or wrong. Will

anthromorphorizing grizzlies?

anthromorphorizing grizzlies?

A little while ago there was someing on TV about a man and his girfriend studying/living close to grizzlies.

On your DVD did the two of them get killed? Until then it was an interesting story. There was also something on TV about a man working on a bear-proof suit that would withstand a grizzly attack.

One summer in Algonquin Park we went to the dump passing by all the warnings that bears were common there. For the first and last time I saw human panic when one bear feeding on garbage chased a second bear feeding on garbage and the bear being chased just happend to run towards the crowd of people. Mass panic ensued. The crowd of people, myself included, were within 10feet of said bears. You know something, bears travel very fast, and effortlessly--people don't. These were black bears and are totally different from grizzlies.

We never visited there again--the dump I meant. We go to Algonquin pretty much every year. There's just no place like it. Another time we went to pick blueberries not far from the campground and we saw a bear so we just went back the way we came.

Cheers

Why wouldn't you go again? The problem wasn't the park - it was the fact that you were 10 FEET FROM A WILD ANIMAL. Enjoying nature's beauty is wonderful - you just have to remember that it's wild. 10 feet is way too close to anything that's out there, bear, deer, elk, etc. If they come close to you - you move!

We have at least one or two tourists up here that insist on getting really close to elk and are seriously hurt when they end up charging because of a flashbulb or something else that upset them, especially during the rut. I guess they don't think they're wild because they're in town/on the outskirts or in the park. Hey, there's roads so it's not wilderness! Uh, okay...yeah, it IS.

Go again, enjoy nature but be a little more aware of your surroundings.

Oh, and the individual who spent his time with the bears-also took for granted they were wild, although he admitted he did and accepted what could happen. I think there's audio of that final attack.

Yes, both the male and female do end up on the wrong end of the food chain. However, that's very clear near the begining of the documentary and it looks at why the guy did this for 13 years until the end. A facinating look at the way one person thinks. I know of the other guy and his bear-proof suit. I read an article in a magazine about it. At the time it said he had a version that was pretty good and that the military was interested. Will
