Hi Everyone

Got my surgery packet from Cleveland Clinic. I am all set for valve repair on August 5th. I am scheduled all day on August 3rd for meetings and tests. Looks like they have their act together!
My middle daughter (age 16)just returned from a 10 day trip to France. Guess what she brought back? The swine flu! No kidding. I feel like I am in a nightmare. Anyone else had to deal with something like this? All 3 of my kids and my husband and I are on Tamiflu. I don't think they want me getting the swine flu before surgery! I can say she is getting better but my youngest is now sick with it. And, I thought the big deal of the summer was my surgery.

yup, a few members have had their surgeries postponed for various reasons, including problems with teeth. You should probably let the hospital know, if you haven't already. Their scheduling must be a nightmare! Hope you all get over it quickly.

Check in with your surgeon!

Check in with your surgeon!

August 5th is far enough out that it will most likely be a non-issue, but I would check with your surgeon to be sure. Please let us know how your daughter is doing. My son also just returned last week from a school trip to Europe. Fortunately, he came home swine flu free. His room is a pig sty, but no flu, thank God.:D Good luck and keep us posted. Hugs. Janet

I would think you'd be well by then but would call the surgeon just to make them aware.. I hope you feel better soon!! That wasn't the gift you were hoping to receive from France I'm sure!

Poor you, France isn't on the list of high risk areas according to our MOH...

"Until schools break on 17 July 2009, the Public Health Department is advising any children who have returned from Mexico, the USA, London, the Midlands and Greater Glasgow to stay off school for 48 hours after their return. "

I hope you don't get it, that the Tamiflu kicks in. Good luck.

My teenage nephew in Massachusetts had swine flu and was so minimally ill his mother wasn't sure he wasn't 'faking' :D trying to avoid doing something she knew he didn't want to do. She brought him to the doctor 'just in case' he wasn't kidding about his symptoms and sure enough, lab tests verified swine flu.

He was well within a week and back to his usual routine.
You have enough time that even if you get it, you should be fine.
I think the press made far more out of this H1N1 than was reasonable. Seems the usual seasonal flu is more virulent than this flu has THUS FAR proven to be. Some say, it could morph into something worse during the upcoming flu season. Hope not.

Swine flu update...

Daughter #1 who came home with "The Swine of '09" as she says, is doing great. We started her on the Tamiflu as soon as we got the positive result (Type A)and that was last Tuesday. She has been fever free for 2 days and is 95% back to her old self. Daughter #2 tested positive for H1 N1 (Type A) on Thursday but she isn't nearly as sick as Daugher #1. I think starting everyone in the family on the Tamiflu on that Tuesday was the ticket. She had only a low grade fever for 1 day and right now is really just left with a cough. SO, I think you are all correct...the media blew this flu out of proportion. And, now living with it for almost a week, I see nothing different than the normal flu. As for the rest of us...we are symptom free so far. We leave for Reno in 5 days so there is no time for anymore sickness. Thanks for everyone's advice.

Thanks for the update. Happy to hear your daughters are feeling better and everyone else remains well.

Enjoy your time in Reno.

Travel safely.
