Hi everyone.
Just got off the second call from my surgeon's office trying to schedule my surgery.

The date for my MVR & AVR is January 8th. I will go for pre-op on January 5th.

I am glad to finally have a date but boy am I a nervous wreck. I guess it has once again dawned on me that this is really going to happen.

I think this time is excelent at making you take time out to ,not notice, say a sun rise, but rather sit there and watch it. There are sooo many things we gloss over. So don't let your fears take that away from you!

Hi Carla,
I know just how you feel. When I finally got my date I said to myself " Great, now I feel much better...the in the next breath I said whoa, that means this thing is really gonna happen"
Then I had 3 weeks to get thru waiting for the date to arrive. The first couple of weeks I did a lot of bellyachin about the wait. The this last week as I am getting close I start thinking man I wish I had a few more days before this gets here. Just can't keep me happy. I suspect most people go thru something very similar. I have found myself logged in here quite a bit more than "normal" over the last few days trying to stay "close" to this wonderful bunch of people. I hope your wait is not to hard, and that you come thru with flying colors to the "other side" and on your way to a great recovery.

I clearly remember when I actually set the date for my surgery. I was terrified.

I remember one of the gals on the board (?) telling me before my surgery that "time marches on" and the surgery would be over and done with before I knew it! She was right!!

Enjoy the holiday season. Prepare yourself mentally as best you can and look to God for your help and strength - I found He/She is the only one who can give you what you need in that department.

We will all be praying for you and behind you - you know that!

You're on your way to a new beginning. :)

Carla, Finally a date! Seems you have had quite a wait just to get to this point. January sounds like a great time to get this done. You can sit back and enjoy the holidays and then start the new year off by getting your self well! I had hoped to put my surgery off until the first of the year but the Doc had a different opinion and I was only in the waiting room for a few days. I am still not sure if this was good or bad. The thing to remember is that time flies and before we know it you will be well on your way to recovery and be feeling great again! We, along with the rest of this great group here at VR.com, will be here to help you out during this entire journey. I will keep you in my prayers.

Carla, Sorry you have to wait a month but at least you have a date. Use the time to finish little projects or find quiet things to do after the surgery. Enjoy the holidays with friends and loved ones. Yes, it's really going to happen but you will feel so much better when it's over with! Keep the positive thoughts!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I have been waiting for this since 1995 when I had the valvuloplasy and the doc told me it was not a permanent fix, that I would one day have to have replacement. I am really glad that the waiting and wondering will be over. I found out yesterday that my surgery will be at Crawford W. Long hospital in Atlanta. It is now part of Emory University and has a new state-of-the-art heart center. My surgeon, who is chief of cardio-vascular surgery at Emory prefers the new heart center. My family is not real excited because this hospital is right in downtown Atlanta, which means that it is a pain to get to, but they say they'll survive. Whatever keeps the surgeon happy!

Thanks again for all the kind words and thoughts.

Carla,
Glad to hear you finally have a date. Hopefully the time will pass quickly and your New Year will start out with a new, improved YOU!

Carla - Congratulations on your date. As the time grows nearer, you will get more and more calm. As Bonnie says, once you get your "feel good" shot, you'll be giggling and ready to go. You're gonna do just fine kiddo cause you have a large fan club rootin for you, and anxious to hear your results. Don't forget to get somebody to post for you or we'll be chewing our fingernails. Best wishes - Chris

Carla,

A state-of-the-art heart center sounds wonderful, regardless of its location. If you and your family can get a tour of the place before your date, they might not mind the drive as much.

Carla,

It's good to hear that you have a date.

You will be glad that you went to Atlanta for your surgery. One reason that the surgeons prefer that type of setting is that all the support staff have lots of experience with your type of surgery. That contributes to a successful outcome and that is the bottom line!
