Saw my Card on Wednesday before last, and went over all the research and decisions that I made. He agreed with pretty much everything that I had done, especially the choice not to do 2 CABG?s. He said that the arteries are 40% plaqued up with heavily calcified stuff ?that isn?t going anywhere?. They can be managed without CABGs. His fear is that since the arteries aren?t closing up, the CABGs would ?clog up rapidly, which will cause a real mess?. Then he told me that he?d call the surgeon and set up an appointment with him. What intrigued me was that, although I had come up with about 10 reasons for going with a tissue valve, only one mattered to him: my ulcer. Right now, if my ulcer kicks up, I take a couple of Xantac?s and drive on. On ACT, I?d be hospitalized for it for a couple of days each time it flared up. Yeeechhh!

So then I saw the surgeon last Thursday, told him about the decisions, and of course he still wanted to do the CABGs, so I had to go over it all again with him. Kinda exasperating, and he wasn?t happy about it. I can see why surgeons and cards don?t always get along.

Got a message yesterday from the Pre-Admissions department at the hospital. Called them today, and I?m scheduled for pre-admission testing this Thursday. They asked when my date was, and I told them I didn?t know yet, so they looked it up: 7:15 AM on FRIDAY the 13th! Glad I?m not real superstitious. One of the guys here at the office pointed out that they probably have lots of vacancies on that day.

So put me on the calendar: up the Mountain on Friday the 13th! I?m just glad the waiting is finally over.

?Make Mine Bovine?

Tom,
That was quick!
I put you on the calendar for the 13th, and I know things will go well.

How cool is that? Friday the 13th. Always a great day! You're wise not to be superstitious. In the future, you'll be regarded as doubly brave! It's always nice to have a little zinger to add to your story!

:D I like your signature. "make mine bovine". There are a lot of us here, moo-ing. We'll be in chorus for you as you climb the mountain. Hopefully there will be someone to post for you? That would be great, if possible.

Hang in there. You'll be part of the chorus in no time!!

:) Marguerite

I'm sure you are relieved to have the date and time set- Friday the 13th will turn out to be a lucky day for you! Best wishes and we look forward to all good news.:)

Tom - congrats! No time to think about things, good! You will do great:) . Can't wait to hear how it all was. Take care and Godspeed!

I'm single and live alone, but I'll try to get my chief of staff, Smokey, to post for me.

Smokey is 15-lb grey feline person that lets me live in his house. He's fairly adept at keystrokes when he walks on my keyboard, and I watched him turn off the alarmclock with his paws this morning.

HA! Very funny! :p Well, then, we'll expect Smokey (now if you'd said he was an all black cat I'd be wondering at this point!!! ;) ) to give us a full report!

Hope you've lined up some help of some kind. You'll be fine with the personal hygiene and whatnot, but remembering to take meds, opening the refrigerator, making meals, doing any laundry.....you probably won't be wanting to try all that for a few weeks. You'll be surprised how tough it is to open a can of catfood!! It really pulls on that sternum for awhile!!
